How long do colleges take to reply to emails?

I have some urgent questions and I’d like for them to be answered on an email. (International call rates are high and I hate calls in general so this is a last resort). It’s been two days but CMU hasn’t replied back. Maybe that is because it was a weekend, is that the case? Or should I just pick up the phone?

It is Sunday, and Christmas was Friday. So no one has been in the office for at least 3 days. If you don’t here back by mid-day on the college’s time by Tuesday, you could try calling. Are these questions you can’t get answered out here?

Yes. I’ve tried googling and searching the problems. Thanks, didn’t consider Christmas.

Many schools have a week or so break this time of year.

Yes, many schools are closed the week between Christmas and New Years Day. There is no one to answer emails or the phone. Not sure if CMU does this.

In that case, should I use the “Additional Information” section on the CommonApp?

It’s about citizenship/financial aid issues. And I need to give a heads up to 1-2 colleges I added late to the list because CollegeBoard refused to change my name (my middle and last name are grouped into the last name on my CB account) regarding my SAT score report.

I would use Additional Info to put in an explanation of the name on the SAT score report (would not criticize CB in the description, just a factual sentence about what they should look for). You can also describe your citizenship situation.

I would not put any specifics of financial aid in your application, you will want to direct that information instead in a separate email or letter to the financial aid office. They are separate offices at the colleges. I am assuming you want to describe special circumstances around your finances that the forms you will be filling out for financial aid don’t cover (have you looked at those forms already, though?). If the forms truly don’t cover your situation or ask questions to allow you to describe the information, then you can write a separate letter to financial aid.
