This is my first time around with move in day. She will be moving in on a Saturday at University of Arizona and we are coming in from New Jersey. I plan on flying in early Friday…but when should I leave? Sunday? Monday? Do they have activities?
Unless there is a parents’ program you should leave campus once move in is done.
We did move in day, my d’s school had activities for the parents, then we took her out to dinner and then said good bye.
i also didn’t mean to ask it under the gamecock post. Thank you!
Both of my kids are at distant colleges. DH and I helped with move-in and then spent an extra day in town finding our own things to do and available for a trip to Target or whatever, but not hanging around with our child. We took her out to dinner the last night and then said goodbye. One of the kids’ colleges had some things planned for parents around move-in and the other did not. I think we flew in the day before move-in, did some shopping, moved in the next day, and stayed one more day. The college will publish a move-in schedule at some point that will help you plan. Making a hotel reservation for yourself is the first thing to do.
Once you get her moved in, she’s probably not going to want to hang around with you. You might be able to get a final dinner out of it Saturday night, or make a trip to Target to get some essentials, but don’t expect to see her Sunday – that would definitely be anti-climactic. That said, Tucson is a lovely place with lots of things to see. A trip out to the Desert Museum or Saguaro National Monument should be on the agenda, unless you’ve already been.
