I am currently a senior in high school right now and I might apply for a community college instead of going to a UC right a away to save money. I have heard stories about how hard it is to enroll in classes at a community and that it will take 3 years to transfer instead of 2. How often does it take to transfer considering that I am in the orange county area and want to go into computer science? I have AP calc AB, Literature, U.S. history, Civics, Econ, and Computer science A credit that I got after getting a 4 on most of them.

If you follow your SEP (student education plan), don’t switch majors, are not selective about who is teaching the class or about class times, and you have AP credit, you should be able to transfer in 2 years. Also consider taking a couple of classes during the summer (either online or at the college) if it looks like it will be necessary.

Also look into who your CC gives priority enrollment to. At my D’s CC priority enrollment is given to students with an SEP in place and students enrolled in the honors program (which your CC may have and you may be interested in).

Two of my D’s friends were accepted into the UC’s (one at Berkeley, the other at San Diego) and decided to attend CC instead due to the cost of the UC’s, and hope to transfer to a UC later.
