My DD requested a transcript be sent to a college a month ago. She’s still waiting for the high school to send it. For a couple of different reasons, she needs to be admitted to this particular school by mid September. How long should it take for a school to electronically send a transcript (not common app)?
Ours requires two weeks notice. However, DD has not yet applied to colleges, so I haven’t had the chance to put that to the test.
A month seems too long IMO. Time to be a nag.
Agreed that a month is too long. Our experience was that our HS sent the transcripts right away on their end but it took longer for the colleges to “process them.” It was especially long for the dual credit transcript.
Ask the college, if they will accept self-reported transcript
I think they say a week, but in practice it’s usually within a couple hours during the summer, maybe a day or 2 during the school year.
Our HS did not have transcripts ready to send to college until early October. I would contact your D’s guidance counselor and ask. If the transcript is cannot be sent by your mid-September deadline perhaps something else can be used (ex. final report cards sent by guidance office, self-reporting grades etc.).
A month is ridiculous. Ours is typically 5-7 days.
Ours only sent electronic transcripts to instate public colleges, and they sent them in batches, not individually. For an individual transcript, you ordered it from the GC, they needed 3-5 days (but usually faster) and you picked it up in a sealed envelope which you then addressed to the college and put some stamps on it.
I can see it taking more than a month, if that month was August. Schools have to send a lot of transcripts for transferring students. Ask nicely if there is another way to have these sent, explaining the she needs it quickly for a scholarship or special admissions.
A month ago would have been July, which means unless your school has a year round teaching/guidance or administrativre staff that works over the summer, i would not expect any summer request to be handled until people return to school.
Fortunately, for studenbts who attend the NYC DOE schools if they out their student ID ib their SUNY/CUNY applications, transcripts are automatically pulled by the city/state.
