How long has your iPod lasted you?

Of 4 of my friends, who bought it last summer, only one person's has been working by the end of this year's summer. What about you?

I lost mine during HSPAs. Darn you state of New Jersey standardized testing!

4 years and counting.......same for many I know plus some folks have more than one.

Mine lasted about 2 years and then it died... one day it decided it no longer wanted to respond to my computer and died. Very sad lol. I've had a new one for like 5 months.

Mine is closing in on 2 1/2 years :D

1.5 years (first gen iPod mini).

Mine's still functioning but only cos it's been 6-7months..(nano)
I'm dreading the 1 year mark (as a lot of people's have been crashing out)

Mine's been running since Feb.

I had mine for a good two years. Sold it because, well, iPod's suck (dont mind my name :P) I got a better PMP that I love.

it'll be 2 years in december

13 months and it went kaput.

unfortunatly I have not bought one yet. but from what you guys are saying, it seems like an..unworthy investment.

i'll take this opportunity to plug non-Apple players. please, people, genericized trademarks = bad.

my creative nomad zen jukebox xtra has been rockin and rollin for upwards of 2 years now. while it is a wonderful, sturdy, worthy music player, it's also great because you can avoid paying when something breaks. the fact that the battery is removable and that the player itself is easy to disassemble means that, if something goes wrong, you can just open it up and fix it yourself without doing all the icky mess that results from the ipod's tamper-resistant design.

example: i let my li-ion battery discharge so much that the protection circuitry wouldn't let me recharge. so i just removed the battery, hooked it up to a dc-dc power supply for a few minutes, and we were back in business. with an ipod, you'd have to send it to factory to get that fixed.

i've heard about people who've done more intrusive things like replace bad caps, etc.

My first lasted me a year before someone threw it against a wall in anger.

Then I got a nano... it's been since.. I don't know, when it first came out?

My sister's will be 2 years old in November, has been dropped 3 feet on to concrete w/o a case, survived a car wreck (was in a case in a messenger bag, the bag hit the dash right where the iPod was), and still works well. It has a tiny chip on the back from being dropped, and the click-wheel isn't as responsive as it once was, but it's pretty much like new. It's also a first-gen mini. Mine has been in a case since I got it (two leather flipcases, and currently is in a waterproof/ruggedized shell), and is perfect condition.
I think it really depends on the model/batch/owner.

It's been with me ever for 3-4 years. I go to bed listening to it every night. Honestly, the two best parts about the iPod is its durability and the memory size.

mine lasted about 16 months... started acting strange the week the warrenty expired and held on for 4 months. I just bought a new one... hopefully it will last longer.

I was about to say the same thing.

My nano's lasted about 9 months so far. I will miss it dearly when/if it dies. I should probably start looking for a good replacement for it soon.

I also go to bed listening to my iPod. :-)

I was really suprised with how well my mini has held up. I figured that it would be kaput around it's first birthday, but it's still going. I might get a next-gen nano if they do go back to a solid metal case, otherwise I'm sticking to my mini!
