490+, hehe

I think that's probably a good idea. I'd suggest getting a reader you trust to give you some honest feedback, too. (No, I don't recommend posting it here. ;)) A good reader can give you feedback on the quality as well as suggest cuts.

An average essay that meets the length guidelines probably won't tank your application; a mediocre essay that is way too long may score some negative points. A bleary-eyed essay reader strung out on Starbucks may assume that not only aren't you a very good writer, but you can't read instructions, either. ;)

I'm not suggesting that your essay is mediocre - but I think going very long on the essay is risky. It's kind of like deciding to write a funny essay... if it's absolutely brilliant, it could be a big hit. If not, though, it's more likely to be a negative.

heh, dont worry FB - mine was 950 or 980 i believe...I'm pretty sure it's fine (otherwise we're both in trouble...lol) but just to let u know ur not alone. :-)

851...I was so shocked it even lets you do that..do you guys think it's a bit too much? Like they'll stop reading it after 500 or something? Because I know colleges that have cap on word limits.

Okay boys and girls, give me a hand, the essay has been shortened to 832 words.

500 exactly. yeah!!!

wait are we supposed to put our name on it?

I dont think so...its part of your part 2. Mines 628 words.
