Personal Essay too Long?

Is really bad if my essay goes over their 250-500 word mark.
It's also says one to two pages and my essay is only one the second page, though it is like 800 words.

What do guys thinks.

i did one for the common app for all my other schools that I like, but it's around 670-680 words and I'm using that for Columbia...so I hope it doesn't really matter as long as it is a page...I'm hoping.

Me too, though they might get used to knowing what was longer just from reading.
It's probably all cool though.

Mine is 1.5k

If they reject me on its length then I don't want to go to Columbia anyways :P

ill check it out if u want, the only thing is u dont want to sacrifice the focus and integrity of your essay by conforming to general word standards

first of all they don't count words.

so if you're essay is good, it probably won't matter unless it's incredibly long.

and doesn't it say 1-2 pages?

^Yeah it does. Mine was 790 words. As long as it's not boring and just random rambling, it should be fine. I think...

mine was just under 800 words but the one i sent to columbia i cut down to 598...

try cutting the essay just see what you can take out...

Dear god people, my essay was only 332 words.

^ Hey, it's about the content, not the length. Don't let those numbers freak you out!

"If they reject me on its length then I don't want to go to Columbia anyways :P"

its not so much they will reject you, but consider it this way. if every other Columbia applicant had the same mindset as you and submitted 1000 more words than what was asked, that would mean like 15000000 more words for them to read! they are humans too.

btw, 1900 posts since march? do you live here? lol

I was being slightly facetious.

Columbia has told me to send "as much as necessary" since I am home schooled, and I interpreted that to include the essay as well.

mine was about 1000 words... I used the 2 page guideline rather than the 500 word guideline
