I know on common app it says 200+, but how long is yours? 200? 300? 500?
What are your reasons?
Just briefly, if your willing to share of course.

I was aiming for 500 words, because that’s how long my brain was telling me my main essay was for freshmen admissions. My “Why Transfer” essay ended up being as long as it needed to be (about 600 words) and still fit on one page.

It should be AT MOST 2 1/4 pages double spaced.

2 paragraphs,(about 11 sentences) mine worked though

iirc it was hovering just at the 500 word mark.

In my opinion short and sweet is the way to go, I think it was about a page and a half double spaced with 12 inch font, no bs in it, in fact I only wrote one essay for one school that was over 2 pages long, and the transfer process went pretty well for me

mine was 335 words, or 1 1/4 pages (double spaced). for what I wrote about, this was plenty of room. when I applied as a senior, mine was about 500-600 words (2 pages, double spaced). I think the difference in length is dependent on your topic.

if you’re telling a story, it might benefit you to write a bit of a longer essay to make sure there is a well developed tone and direction.

if you’re trying to present reasons for why you’re transferring, shorter and succinct is better.

My essay was about 600 words, but that was mainly because I was at a state school that lacked a lot of funding in the department of my interest.
Try not to sound too whiny or downplay your current school too much when you give reasons for wanting to transfer.

My Common App essay was 326 words. I talked about how my current engineering school, while phenomenal at math and science and whatnot didn’t offer a liberal arts curriculum and how I learned in high school by going to an art school that balancing science with art has a synergistic effect in a person and that I missed it - stuff like that…

mine was barely 300 words… single spaced, took up the whole page. about 4-5 paragraphs, spaces between each paragraph. did the job tho :]
