How long should the additional essay be?

How long is your additional essay?
I'm planning on using a 250ish word one I wrote for another college.

My supplemental essay was about 180. It was not an essay-essay, but it was informing the admissions office of some circumstances in my life of which I felt they ought to be aware. I’m sure the admissions office could have read it in one and a half minutes or less, and that was fine with me. I did not need any more of their time than that to make my point. Nobody should ever go back and stuff superfluous words into an essay just to pad it out.* Of course, if you want to go longer and felt you had to keep it uncomfortably short, 500 is probably a good guideline to expand it to.

*Well, exceptions for class writing when you have a minimum number of pages and you’ve said everything you wanted to say, of course.

My supplemental was a full-length essay that was 600 words long. Length depends on what you’re trying to write about. If you’re trying to explain unusual circumstances, you probably won’t use as many words as I did.

I’m not sure if I should send an additional essay. I’m sending a supplement already, and don’t really have any unusual circumstances to explain.

Is it a negative thing to not send an additional essay?

is “why harvard” a suitable topic?
