How long to finish AP Psych???

Hey everyone, I really want to take AP Psychology online but I can only register after January 10th which means I would have to start at a later date. My concern is if I have enough time to finish the course before the AP exam in May of 2017. On average, how long did it take you guys who took it online?

I took it in a class so I don’t know if this will help a ton but. It is a semester long class and we didn’t have enough time to cover everything in first semester. You would need to do a lot of work and review if you wanted to finish it. You could always get a review book and start studying before that date. Also CrashCourse on youtube has good videos on the topics that I use for review.

@marie0216 My son took AP psych online through VHS (virtual high school) as a full year course. He took AP Psych at the same time he was taking APUSH in school. APUSH is know to have a lot of reading. The reading for AP Psych was as much, if not more. My son preferred APUSH to AP Psych but that’s probably just because he loves history. The AP Psych book that schools use seems to be the same book across high schools. The course did prepare him and he got a 5 on the AP exam.

You would basically have 3 months before the AP exam. Last year it was early May (May 2?). Look into the online courses AP score rates? They will, if they have demonstrated success, post the percentage of students that are successful on the exam. If the goal is just to take the exam, maybe you can consider self-study and skip the course?

I did not take ap psych, but tons of my friends have. They took it in school, but they all loved it. I have multiple friends who now are majoring in psychology in college. I know this doesn’t really answer your question, but what I’m getting at is that it’s a class that many people love, and you might love it enough to spend extra time on it this semester because it excites you.

My school also has an AP Psych class (not online, but still may apply) that spans a semester. Even with kids taking it second semester (meaning less time because of the exam), it is manageable. For us, structure was extremely important; break the the course up into its fourteen subtopics and you can comfortably do about one per week up until the exam.

I am currently taking AP Psychology on APEX. I am not a big fan of the class, so I decided pretty early on that I would finish it quickly. Now I have finished 4 of the 6 units, and the last unit is just the final, so I’m basically a week away from being done. So doing the math, it will have taken me about a month and 15 days, which I think is like 3/8ths of a semester. I’m not sure if this is too helpful, though, because APEX is known for cutting the bs on its classes and only giving the barebones necessities of the course, so it may be way different than your online course provider. I would still encourage you to take it online if you think you’d be interested in it.

How’d you do on the exam? I’m planning on taking psychology from apex as well.

I meant taking their college psychology course. I took AP Psych on FLVS (ik this is an old post but for any people who have the same question) and it took the whole year. FLVS doesn’t offer college courses so I was wondering how APEX is like.
