Title states it very clearly. We have need blind admissions.

Will race-blind admissions ever be a reality?

Title states it very clearly. We have need blind admissions.

Will race-blind admissions ever be a reality?

Why is half the threads on this forum about race? Please...

Visirale,

You'll have race-blind admissions when you have a race-blind society.

The threads are about race because it's a big problem in our society. This country has never had equality among the races, and I don't think it ever will. I guess it's just too idealistic of me to want real equality.

It's ridiculous how long it took for the civil rights movements to have any impact. It's atrocious how long it took the government to recognize that slavery was an evil institution.

Now it seems to me we are trying to apologize, which I am not against. I guess when something is as horrible as slavery, there is no easy way to make up for it.

AA sounds nice, but just like all things, it's great unless you're on the short end of the deal.

I think college admissions shouldn't give extra points for factors that students have no control over. This is done now, partly through need blind admission. It should not be based on what my parents did, what my grandparents did, or anything besides what I have done. That means no legacy-status, or anything like that.

Will it ever happen?
Probably not...

Will it get worse before it gets better?
I'd bet on it.

The idealist in me tells me yes, one day we will see a race-blind society and thus, a race-blind admissions process.
The realist in me says: dream on. It ain't gonna happen.
That's the sad fact, so just accept it.

Give us a break please...

other races have it harder but if genuis and smart I think every college and university in the coutry would want him regarding his race or social status.

Exactly.

And the fact is that races are not equal. Look at the economics and the average incomes between races. They aren't even. How about the education? Nope. Life really isn't fair to some people and neither is college admissions to others.

Posting crap like "give me a break please" doesn't further this discussion at all. At least be willing to discuss it, or don't post at all.

I'm curious, why did you feel the need to make another topic about AA, when there's already one with over 15 pages on the first page?

But to answer your question, I agree with UCLAri and willmingtonwave.

And, to you my friend.

I'm sick of reading things like "You're white, so you're going to need much higher stats..." and "You're black, so you're fine."

I'm arguing that hereditary traits shouldn't push people foward or hinder them in college admissions.

Let me guess, I bet most of you think that if admissions were race-blind that universities would be full of rich white kids? I don't know about your schools, but there are maybe 5 or 10 white kids in the top 5 percent of my class (of about 700)...

Jesus, this turned in to something I didn't want it to. I swear, I want to have a rational discussion, and everyone has a cow over it.

Visirale,

Most people weren't upset about the topic per se, but that it's been discussed far too many times recently to really be an "interesting" issue.

It'll never happen.

The only other affirmative action option to race is economic status, and colleges wont pay out the financial aid for that.

It will happen - and i belive we do...

and me-myself being asian - i hate the fact that we're considered smart so that we're minused off points. i can understand adding points but *** is minusing?

nice!

anyhow, visirale:

thanks for making this post

i dont think any topic can be over-discussed as long as someone somewhere thinks about it

we can overcome race in admissions by looking deep within ourselves, but in all seriousness, if you are a piece of gold, then wherever you're found--in a jewelry store or under a hundred miles of dirt--you still are a piece of gold and that overcomes any ulterior factor

Racial threads almost always go south. This one took only 11 posts for the name-calling to begin, so it's done.
