How many applicants are really viable?

<p>I was wondering, when a HADES school receives a few thousand applications for 200 or so spots, how many of those applications are really viable. I wold love to hear that a third of them are just ridiculous and put aside...any thoughts? Thanks</p>

<p>I read somewhere (maybe for Andover?) that only 75% of applicants are good enough to go to the school</p>

<p>yeah, I saw that on Andover’s site too. So if you want to do the math, that raises their acceptance rate (assuming that all people who are accepted are qualified, which is not true because of legacies) from 14% to to 18.6666…etc. percent.</p>

<p>I know, I’m wondering about the other 25%. I’m pretty sure they applied thinking that they might get in, but then…I guess they weren’t. I just hope that I’m not part of the 25%…</p>

<p>I guess that some people are applying to them as reach schools, and aren’t actually sure they’d be good enough. Also maybe people just don’t appreciate how hard it is at these schools, so they think they would be good enough, but the schools think otherwise.</p>
