How many applications?

I was just wondering how many schools people usually apply to. If you plan on applying to a lot, is there a way to not have to pay the fees? I’m not poor, but there’s no way my parents will pay more for more than 4, possibly 5 applications, which seriously limits me as I have a grand total of $12.68 in my jewelry box.

some schools waive the fee if you apply online.

I would say that the average HS student (keep in mind that a score of about 500 on each SAT section is average) applies to 2 or 3 colleges. However, I would also say that because most CCers are applying to more selective institutions most of us apply to between 6 and 8 colleges. That being said, I'm applying to around 15 colleges and I don't feel overwhelmed. The fact that many of the schools to which I am applying require the use of the common app makes the process much more manageable. Also, I would very much encourage you to apply to as many schools as you are interested in and feel you can produce a quality app. Having many options is always a good thing when financial aid is an important issue. You can have your counselor get you fee waivers if the application fees would hold you back from applying.

get a job. sounds rude, but just like mowin lawns or babysitting or something, you will have the extra couple of hundred dollars for apps very quickly. and yes, if your situation is that your family is poor, the colleges will wave the fees
