<p>I see 1000 are chosen to receive the GMS award. Roughly how many applicants apply? Also is this a full scholarship for all 4 years of college?</p>
<p>I have done substantial but not magnificient ECs. Should I bother applying or are all 1000 awards most likely going to amazing genius kids who have started a business or something along those lines? Just curious, I want to be realistic for myself. </p>

<p>No, I don’t think they are looking for amazing extra curricular activities. Rather, they are looking for success in the face of adversity. My sibling was a Gates Scholar for this past year and was the top student in her really impoverished school. She had a 4.0 GPA and had amazing teacher recs, not any amazing extra curricular activities, at least in my view. They are just looking for people who did well in high school even though they didn’t have all the best opportunities like many other kids might have elsewhere.</p>
