How many APs can you safely self study in one year?

Yes, but you can’t take it until 11th or 12th grade. I want to take physics later on, but I also want to fit in chemistry too.

My S self-studied AP env sci & AP US Gov as a HS senior. He said both were very easy. He also took a whole slew of APs relating to the courses he took that year. It WAS tiring for him to have so many AP exams in one year.

You should discuss your plans and options with your HS counselor. It is NOT a good idea to overload yourself as a freshman & burn out. Grades ARE important, as is socializing, ECs & other things that make up a well-rounded student.

By the way, why do you want to many AP tests? Just curious.

Then classicalguitar, wait to take AP Chem. Your science plan for HS should be:

10th: Honors Chem
11th: AP Chem
12th: Honors Physics

OR

10th Honors Chem
11th: AP Chem and Honors Physics
12th AP Physics

In the latter plan, you can just drop an elective or something you don’t want to take two sciencs. But seriously, there’s no point self-studying AP Chemistry when your school offers it.

I am taking so many APs for three reasons. The first is that my classes are too easy. The second is that I like to learn; I find a lot of these topics interesting. The third is that I like to teach myself stuff. I want to self study some APs, but I want to make sure that I’m not biting off more than I can chew.

Your current classes are too easy- maybe they’re not next year. You can still learn a lot and do AP classes without ruining your grades. Don’t self study AP Chem when you’re going to take the class the following year.

I’d drop most of your self studies. Human Geography seems bogus to me, as does Environmental Science. Science APs are tough to self study for (except for Envirosci) without the labwork. There is nothing wrong to saving Bio for next year.

AP Euro was a beast. I took that class last year with a schedule similar to yours, and it was easily the same amount of work as my other classes combined. I assume AP World might be the same way, but cover different material. Save Euro once you have world under your belt (spring semester, maybe? Check how the two match up, then.)

I’m taking 5 AP classes right now. Two are through unconventional methods (one was during a course in the summer and one is online). I thought last year was “not bad”, but 5 may have damaged my mental sanity. Maybe an online course is a better option for self study over the summer or something (like FVLS or Wisconsin Virtual School or EPGY). If you are extremely bored at around spring semester next year, take a look at self studying AP Euro, maybe. But that seems pointless to me.

I’ve self studied and 5’d EuroHistory and Human Geography, and I’m doing EnviroSci this year. I would say stay away from self studying Chem, Bio, and Physics, but if you must self study one of the core sciences, let it be Bio.

I did 4 tests with 2 self studies as a 10th grader. If you’re disciplined, I can’t see why you couldn’t do 6/4.

I would suggest cutting down the amount of APs you plan to self study. My Freshman year was ridiciously easy, but sophmore year was more difficult, and Junior was definately way more difficult. I agree with alot of what others are saying. I probablt would recommend self studying no mroe than two. I would keep the numbers down this year, take some of these your junior and senior years at school (especially because if you take these now, what are you going to take later…it could be very easy) Just make sure you don’t blow yourself out. Make sure you have a chance to enjoy high school. Just one more comment…depending on the college you go to, some have a max amount of AP credit you can bring in. I know at a bunch of colleges I am looking at I have the possibilty to go in with almost twice the amount of credit they allow…and that’s with 9 total in high school. 1 in Soph, 4 Junior, 4 Senior… I would recommend to wait and take the class than overwhelm yourself. I hope this helps! Good luck with your decision and your AP test this year!

Is it a good idea for me to limit my self study APs to 2, chemistry and euro?

Limit it to 2, but don’t take Chemistry! Why study your ass off for a whole year, get stressed and probably get a lower grade when you can just take it next year!?

What should I take instead of chemistry?

Environmental Science or Human Geo like you wanted to. Pick one that you prefer.

Any others you might suggest? What about macro or micro?

for anyone that wants to know, macro and micro are easily self studied. theyre really self explanatory and i was able to learn all of micro in one day (im taking macro right now, and yes they are quite different). but i dont know how this works if you dont know basic econ.
