The AP tests originated in the mid-1950s, before I was born. The first two tests were French and chemistry.

DonnaL, my D is a first year at Chicago now and got 6 elective credits for her 5's in AP US and AP Lit. Your S will also be able to use the Spanish AP for either credit or placement (I can't remember how that works, she didn't take AP language). Our HS restricts what APs are offered to juniors and seniors. That being said, the district is starting to phase APs out in favor of faculty created upper level classes.

My son's high school offers AP English Lit, AP English Language, AP Government, AP U.S. History, AP Calculus AB and AP Euro History, but the program is changing, and we probably will drop Euro History (much to the disappointment of the teacher and the students).

But with the overwhelming success of Virtual Virginia, which offers so many more AP classes, my son will complete high school with 12 or 13 APs. He's so glad that Virtual Virginia is available, because he is in a small school, and there are just so many courses we can offer. He hopes to cash in some of those AP to fill in basic requirements in college.
