I plan on taking the following APs next year (senior year):

AP English Lit
AP Physics C
AP Calc BC
AP Environmental
AP Euro
AP Comp Sci
AP Econ (both macro and micro with an online course... wouldn't fit into my schedule at school)

So that'd be 8 total AP tests. Has anyone here taken that many? Is it going to kill me? I consider myself a very hardworking and capable student; if other people have been able to do it and score 4s or 5s on all of the exams, I think I'd be able to as well. I just want a little reassurance before I commit myself to a year of REALLY hard work that will most likely terminate in a two-weeks-at-the-beginning-of-May-from-hell. So... possible or no?

Heh... the funny thing is, AP Environmental wasn't even my first choice. I had wanted to take Band or Theatre Arts, but neither fit into the schedule so I picked environmental instead.

My school has 8 periods. One is gym. Six of those APs are in my schedule, along with a molecular bio research course in correspondence with Rutgers. Econ, like I said, is self-study.

wow. thats 9 ap exams you are taking (econ and physics C both count as two).
from your stat profile, you look good for the work load. try to get calc BC done in the first semester and focus on physics C the first 2 months of second semester. those exams are fairly easy if you know the material. the others require broader knowledge so cramming using prep books can help. tahts just my opinion.
best of luck.

Okay, that is completely unnecessary.
Take :
AP English Lit
AP Physics C
AP Calc BC
AP Euro
AP Comp Sci
No school is going to consider 5 AP classes weak. You have a lot of stuff to do senior year. With your intended schedule you might go nuts. Not to mention the fact that it will give you no added boost in college admissions.

You will have no life for the next year, dude. Take it easy. You're actually kinda late to cram APs to your schedule. Try to enjoy your Senior year. Take 6 APs tops. Your schedule is packed as it is. Trust me, once the AP exams hit, you'll be sorry for picking so many AP tests.

Actually I think her schedule is okay. It's tough, but it's not impossible..

AP English Lit
AP Physics C
AP Calc BC
AP Environmental
AP Euro
AP Comp Sci
AP Econ

Econ and Physics although counted as two separate APs each really are one, so the workload there should be okay. The only thing that you might want to watch out for is Compsci and Euro, possibly Physics depending on how good your math is. Otherwise it should be good.

All the best with your studies next year :)

14...wow...and kids still don't make it to the top universities in the country with such academics. Sad but true. If you don't balance academics with ec's, then it's futile to pack yourself with APs. Colleges like Penn won't even look at your application before rejecting you. And Harvard....I won't elaborate.

Ah. That's a bit similar to what I did this year then.

Although in the end I didn't sit for the Physics paper (parents were strongly against it o= ) I managed fine throughout the year. You'll be okay =)

Senior year has its own experiences outside of studying. Take 5 and spend the rest of the time having friends and a life. When you look back at high school and seeing ALL you did was study for your 8 AP tests, I almost guarantee you'll wish you had done something else.

You gotta remember that some APs may be "easier" but they might be more time consuming. Like at my school, AP environmental, AP Art History, and AP psych are the "easier" APs, but everyone tells me that it eats up their weekends!

Time consuming = bad.

Why?

Because you have college admissions stuff to do.

And if you're in a lot of extracurricular stuff, you should rethink...

You guys haven't gone to my high school. The val took 1 soph yr, 7 junior year, and 9 senior year. The sal and #3 only took two less than the val.

there is a kid in our school district that somehow took a total of 22 ap classes!! between in school/online/at night school?
i dunno but he is going to harvard.

if you can handle them take them. they will help you in the long run as long as you do ok.

I took 2 AP's soph year, and I'm taking 6 AP exams neat year. AP classes are for the most part, easy. The only problem you face with them is managing the work load. Some AP classes require you to do a TON of work, especially the social studies AP's.

Learn to manage your time, and you'll be fine.

I'm graduating with 13-15 AP exams. I'll be tied for the highest number of APs at my school with my friend Andy. It's a lot, but I'm actually interested in most of them, so it won't be too bad. Manage your time and you'll be alright, but be prepared to not have a life if you want to get 7-8h of sleep every night.

You sound like you are doing almost exactly what I did (5 APs junior year, 8/9 senior year). If you have good time management skills then you can definitely do it, and (contrary to what many say) have a life. (I've been heavily involved in three clubs at my school, my church, and spent time with my family and b/f).

I think the key for you will be to find out the workload for each of the classes, I think in general most students talk about how much (or little) hw they get, if not ask around. Teachers tend to have reputations. But, it is important you find out the situation at your school because the work load can be different at different schools.

AP English Lit-If you don't have to do much outside writing and do mostly reading (we wrote a lot in class and not outside of class) this is definitely doable.
AP Physics C- Since you are doing mechanics it should be alright. Have you had honors physics? Mechanics was really easy for me because I had that background.
AP Calc BC- If you have had AB then it is very managable, if you are good at math but haven't had AB it may be harder, but still possible.
AP Environmental-I have no idea
AP Euro-This will probably be your most time-consuming, just because history classes normally are. But in my experience it is not as much work as APUSH or AP World.
AP Comp Sci-no idea
AP Econ-Make sure you start going over this well before the test, that way you aren't cramming the night before the test. Unless economics jsut comes easily to you, if it does you are blessed. Find a teacher who can explain things to you if you need it, because some of the graphs can be confusing.

I highly recommend figuring out what colleges you are interested in this summer and doing as much of the applications as possible. I think one of the reasons I didn't think my workload was completely overwhelming was because I had already finished my application to my one school at this time last year (end of May). I was accepted before senior year started so I didn't have to worry at all about that. After watching my friends apply this eyar I'm glad I didn't have to deal with it because it is way more time-consuming than you think, especially if you choose to apply to many schools.

I hope some of that helps! But seriously, if you can manage your time you can still have a life.
