How many APs, What APs and When are you taking them?

So my dad basically plans all my classes. He showed me my 4 year play and I was geez dad, don't you think that's a little much...but he said I'll be fine lol.
Anyways I'm a sophomore.

So sophomore year:
4 APs: Human Geography (online, school doesn't have it), Statistics, Environmental Science and Psychology

Junior year:
6/7 APs: APUSH, English Language, Physics B, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Biology (online, I'm really good at science no biggie)

Senior year:
5 APs: European, Computer science A, English literature, US Goverment and politics, compartive

So thats 15-16 AP's!!!! Which seems like a lot because I play travel sports, travel orchestra and more where I am in a different state every weekend, my dad is loco. Oh well.

What about you guys

Your dad is loco, indeed. I’d never let my parents pick my classes out for me.

Goose eggs for me, btw.

My junior year looks like I have no life. I’ll probably talk him out of something because I don’t want physics calc and chem at the same time

I’m about to start 10th grade…no APs yet…

11th grade I wanna do: AP Bio
12th grade i wanna do: AP Calculus, AP EnviSci

APUSH and AP English (not sure if Lit or Lang) are 2 year, 11-12 courses I also hope to take.

I love French so much, but my school has no AP foreign langs, so maybe I could self-study for the 2013 exam…idk.

omg that is seriously way too much
tell him colleges want people to have lives too omg like ec’s and junk

I’m only taking 12-13
which will be really hard
but it ain’t no 15 HOT BEAVER DAMS!!!

10th
ap physics b
ap latin (hopefully)
11th:
ap ab calc
ap phys c
ap lang
ap euro
ap music theory
ap comp sci
12th
ap chem
ap stats
ap lit
apush (might not, as ss isn’t really my strong suit)
ap microeconomics

I’m about to start 10th grade and I’ll be taking AP Biology.
For 11th grade I’ll be taking AP English Language, AP Calculus AB, and possibly AP U.S. History.
For 12th grade I think I’ll be taking AP English Literature, AP Statistics OR AP Calculus BC, and maybe AP Economics(Micro or Macro, I don’t know) or AP Government.

I’m a freshman so I’ll be self studying my APs.

9th- AP Chinese (hopefully)
AP bio
AP comparative gov

10th- AP US history
AP World history (self study)
AP pysch (self)
AP calc
AP chem

11th- AP stat
AP US gov
AP lit
AP environmental science (self)
AP physics

12th- AP French
AP Lang
AP Euro
AP Human Geo (self)

This seems like a lot of work…

@AlexHarper, have you taken APs before? I was expecting them to be just a little harder than honors classes, but I was extremely surprised. They’re not even close to an honors level class.

Freshman: none offered
Sophomore: World history
Junior: Lang, Bio, Calc AB (no BC at my school :(), US gov if the class fits in my schedule, psychology (online), micro/macro (online). Come December, I’ll decide if I can handle self-studying ES or HUG
Senior: If everything goes as planned, I’ll take classes at the local college, and go off of those to take the Lit, Physics (idk which), BC and whatever other tests that my college will accept.

Not sure yet, just focused on Freshman year as of now. Just remember that colleges like to see personality, not just how many courses you can take without cracking.

I am taking a ton but that is because I am driven and motivated. You will not enjoy your classes and most likely will not excel in them if your dad picks all your classes for you. This is my schedule.

Sophomore:
In school:
Ap chemistry, Ap calculus AB,
Ap environmental science,Ap macroeconomics, Ap psychology
Online:
Ap computer science
Self-study:
Ap us gov, Ap statistics, Ap microeconomics

Junior:
All IB classes in school.
online:
Ap music theory
Self-study:
Ap european history, APUSH, Ap English Lang, Ap physics B, Ap French, Ap calc BC

Senior:

All IB in school
Self-study:
Ap physics c: e&m, Ap physics c: mechanics, Ap English lit

So I’m taking a total of 19 Ap’s and 14 IB’s

This is my plan so far - MY plan, not my parents’. I’ll probably change it later, to make sure that I can actually have a life outside of AP books:

Freshman:
none offered :(

Sophomore (next year):
AP Biology
AP Calc BC
AP Stats (at local CC)
AP Euro (self)
AP World (self)
AP Psych (self)
AP Physics B (self)
AP ES (possibly self )
AP HuG (possibly self)

Junior:
AP USH
AP Chemistry
AP Physics C: Mech
AP Lang (possibly)
AP Comp Gov (self)
AP Comp Sci (self)
AP Macroeconomics (self)
AP Microeconomics (self)
AP Music Theory (self)
AP Physics C: E&M (self)
AP Chinese (hopefully, self)

Senior:
AP Spanish
AP Lit (or possibly Lang)
AP US Gov.
AP Chinese (self, if not junior year)

EDIT: 23 APs total, according to this schedule. Will probably turn out to be a LOT less than that LOL

My plan:
Sophmore - AP Euro , AP Psych, AP Environmental Science

Junior: AP English Lang, AP Chem, APUSH , APAH , AP Stats,

Senior: AP English lit, AP Physics B , AP Biology, AP Gov, AP Macro, AP Micro, AP Spanish Lang, AP CALC AB

Holy crap. I honestly feel bad for those of you planning on taking 15+ APs. That’s just ridiculous. You’re either robots, have really easy teachers, or don’t realize how much work an AP class has and are over-estimating yourselves. Do you honestly want to take 7 or 8 APs in one year? Or do you think every “worthy” college will reject you if you don’t?

I mean challenging yourself is one thing, but taking a full schedule of 5 AP classes at school and then take 5 more at home is just insane. Doing a full IB schedule AND APs? WHY? How are you not taking multiples of the same class at that point? It’s like going to school for 9 hours and then coming home to do another full day of classes. If that’s what a top college really wants then personally I wouldn’t even think it’s worth it. I honestly can’t see how you won’t get burned out after high school from taking 20 AP classes. You do realize you still have at least another 4 years of school, right? 4 years where essentially every class will be AP level.

I admire hard work and dedication but some of your “projected schedules” are just insane. How do you justify it? Do you really need to take this many classes to satisfy your “desire to be challenged academically”? Or are you just trying to impress the people who read your applications? You should add another part to the thread called “WHY are you taking them?” - maybe that would actually get people to think about how many classes they are taking.

By the way, this isn’t aimed at anyone in particular, not even this thread in particular.

K I’m done ranting.

For now.

Junior:
English, Stat, Psych, USH

Senior:
Calc AB, Calc BC, Chem, English, Gov, Euro (Maybe)

Most of you guys are ridiculous… How would you manage all of that? I guess it’s more understandable if classes are easy at your school, but still.

What I’m doing:

Sophomore - AP Euro
Junior (next year) - AP Lang, AP Calc AB, APUSH, AP Chem, probably AP Psych self-study (reading a good review book)
Senior - AP Lit, AP Calc BC, AP Bio, AP Physics B, either AP Studio Art or AP US Gov & Politics

There’s no way I’d be able to afford tons of self-studies like you guys, my income is fairly low.

Y’all are CRAY.

I’m a rising senior, I haven’t taken any AP’s until this year. Signed up for AP Biology and AP Psychology.

Yepppp.

Kudos to all the freshman/sophomores who plan on doing 15+ APs

Anyway, back to reality:

Junior: Lang, Calc AB, CompSci, Bio, Environ Sci
Senior: Lit, Calc BC, Physics B, Gov, Chem

Hopefully I get transferred. Please please please learn how to drive

No I’ve never taken an AP class, but I self studied world by merely skimming the book after honors world (school doesn’t have AP) and made a 5.
I’m up for the challenge of 4 APs I picked the easy ones except for the stats and environ teachers give a lot of homework

My school is so small that it only has 5 total, and I’m surprised it even has that many (but thankful it does).

I’ll be the only student in my class that will have taken all 5 (ush, env, lit, gov, calc ab), which are only offered to juniors and seniors. I guess I’ll be valedictorian (only 32 students though), but I have no idea what I would have done if I went to a school with options (definitely wouldn’t be that rank somewhere else).

Anyways, I guess it’s a blessing to have not had the opportunity to overestimate my abilities and end up with a B in a class due to picking too many difficult classes. I wouldn’t have it any other way, regardless of the effects on apps : ).
