^^Yes, but it is advisable to have around 5 pairs of pants. Some khakis, some athletic, some jeans, etc. Make sure that for pants you’d go to a party with you have more than one color. Two should suffice, as pants aren’t as noticeable as shirts. If you’re cheap then one probably works too, provided it’s pretty nondescript and you have enough different styles/colors of shirts to match it.

Also if you’re athletic and work out/play sports a lot, make sure to bring lots of athletic clothes. Because those will get sweaty and gross with one use. Especially shirts- athletic shorts you can probably re-wear a few times without anyone noticing, but if I get shirts, boxers, and socks sweaty I take them out of commission.

I think that sounds like a great balance. Since I layer, I can make a lot of different outfits out of not a lot of clothing. I love this thread because I thought I was taking a lot of clothes, but I guess not!

I haven’t packed my clothes yet so this is me brainstorming at the moment and trying to help myself for the future.

4 jeans (2 dark ones that are wearable for work)

2 bermuda shorts

3 skirts (1 pencil skirt that’s “professional”)

about 5-8 cardigans (although these can wait)

practically all the underwear/socks I have (I might keep my socks with my shoes in an underbed storage bin)

3 shorts to go to gym/bed

1 pj pants

5 dresses

4 pairs of leggings

4 v-neck basics (i need to shop for more)

5 layering tanks (i need to shop for more)

4 shirts that can be worn to parties, etc

and the rest of my shirts, about 15 or so I don’t know

I haven’t figured out what to do for shoes as I haven’t gotten not one good pair of flats (and I tend to have many) I can wear to work or trek up and down hills with.

I think I’m taking a decent amount of clothes. I just need some long-sleeved shirts as I tend to get super cold at times. I’m packing all of my dorm things (cleaning supplies, personal neccessties) in 2 huge storage bins, 1 underbed storage (best use: shoes), and a plastic hamper. If my clothes don’t fit in one of the storage bins, I will probably pack them in luggage and then just have my Mom take it home with her when I empty it out.

10 pairs of socks
10 pairs of underwear
3 belts

2 pairs of jeans
1 pair of khakis
1 pair of dress trousers
5 pairs of shorts
1 pair of sweats
2 pairs of athletic shorts

2 pairs of sneakers
2 pairs of dress shoes
2 pairs of flip-flops (1 for shower use)
1 pair of boat shoes

It seems like a lot of clothing. I may have to make some cuts between all my shirts (41 all told). I may cut some polo shirts or my graphic ts, dunno yet.

8 pairs of jeans
around 70ish t shirts
20 or so undershirts/v necks
5 belts
6 pairs of Sperry’s
3 pairs of athletic shoes
4 pairs of athletic shorts
10 pairs of nice shorts
7 madras shirts
5 Oxfords
14 rugby shirts
5 sweaters
6 sweatshirts
3 Northfaces
4 weeks worth of socks/boxers

Seems a bit excessive, but I don’t see any reason to leave clothes that I wear at home in sake of not having space. I’ll make space if I have to.

8 pairs of jeans
3 capris
2 pairs of workout sneakers (trainers for the gym & warm-ups; spikes for the track)
5 running shorts
~15 t-shirts (the grubby kind)
~20 t-shirts (the good kind)
~8 blazers
22 tops that could only be called “other”
5 pairs of formal shoes
1 pair of flip-flops
7 suits
9 button-down shirts
3 belts
6 pairs of stockings
30 pairs of underwear
1 sweatshirt (I don’t own many…)
1 pair of sweatpants
6 pairs of scrubs = my pajamas
2 dresses
1 pair of absurd heels
4 scarves
2 coats
1 fur hat

…I think that’s it. Chances are that I’ll take my stuff in waves, since I only live 4 hours away from the campus. Thanksgiving is probably when I’ll come back for some more heavy-duty tops/sweaters that I didn’t include in the above number.

My advice? Check out your school’s Residence Life page and see if they note anything about closet space and dressers. Only pack as much as you can hang within the closet space (divided by the number of roommates you have plus you!) provided and whatever under-bed storage you have. Remember, your roommates will not appreciate you hogging all the space. A good thing to consider is when will you be going home next? Pack seasonally, and when you go home bring the things from the previous season back, leave them at home, and bring back the things you need for the next season.

I’m just going to pack enough to get me by for a week, as I’m really not sure how much space we have for clothes and stuff, and then once I work out how many clothes I can fit in my closet space, I’ll hit the shops.

I need new stuff, so I decided I might as well wait until I got there, rather buying it all before.

Six jeans (1 gray, 2 black)
One Khaki
Two Bermudas
Two winter pants
One Northface
Two Uggs
One workout sneakers
One casual sneaker
Six flip flops (I have a habit of wearing flip flops until october in new england)
Seven Hoodies
Six Layer Tank Tops
Five laver shirts
Seven Layer Long Shirts
Five Winter Sweaters
All of my underwear
All of my bras
All of my socks
Two Leggings
Three Pajama Shorts
Two Workout shorts
Ten t-shirts for workout/sleep
Five lounge pants
Two scarves
Two Belts

I will probably throw in a couple more random items as they come to mind. And will go home for more. My list is excessive and i probably wont wear half these things, as i have a bit of a shopping addiction and will shop throughout the semester. O well :D

I really don’t think you guys understand. Small space. Shared with roommates. Who will be very ticked off at you if you take more than your fair share of space.
