And what's the greatest # one person is applying to?
Right now I have applied to 14 school, almost all reaches, and have 9 more to go)

You’re going to be very heavy on the reaches then. Your remaining 9 need to be matches and at least one safety.

yeah I have about 7 matches + safeties

just curious if anyone else is applying to many schools

Only 3: Stanford, WashU, UT-Austin.

Thank god I’m not superstitious!

i only applied to two, but thinking of adding a third
but i do know someone who is applying to sixteen schools 0.0

That means you are applying to 23 schools?!?!?!

I didn’t know most people applied to that many!

I plan on applying to 7, maybe more, maybe less.

Stanford, Columbia/Yale/Harvard, Duke - Reaches

Notre Dame, University of Southern California, Vanderbilt - Matches

Tulane, LSU - Safeties

I don’t know if I should apply to more. I am probably going to have to seriously think about it.

They don’t; that number is excessive even by CC standards. 6-8 is about average in the real world. The most important thing is not the number of schools, but the schools on the list. It’s essential that you have 1 or 2 safeties, and some good solid matches. By all means, apply to a couple of reaches, but don’t spend the majority of your time and effort on them since, by definition, you probably won’t be admitted anyway. If you’re happy with your list, then stick with it.

JMHO, but when someone applies to more than about a dozen schools, it indicates either a serious inability to make decisions or a need to impress/intimidate people. Don’t fall for it. ;)

I’m applying to 14 total, with 5 of those being UCs, and all but 2 of the rest being low matches and safeties.

vegan_girl, how are you going to choose when all the schools accept you?

^ I think having 14 schools accept you is hardly a problem. Having a lot of choices is a good thing. Even if it’s a hard decision, it’s better to have too many to choose between than not enough.

At my school most students I know are applying to Michigan State University. The top students of my class are also mainly appling to Michigan State University, one I know plans to apply to Central Michigan University and states likely to attend if they get one of their scholarships. So far the most prestigeous school I know of a student applying to is Northwestern University.

I’ve applied to 5 schools so far and have only heard back from three, I’m currently working on my application for the rest of the universities I’ll be applying to which is all reaches.

I got into UMichigan (first choice) on Friday so I only needed to apply to 1 school actually. I applied to 2 others but it doesn’t even matter anymore.

Most people at my school apply to around 12 schools. The range is approximately 8-16.

The average at my high school is 8 schools, and I’m applying to 9. 15+ seems absolutely ridiculous to me, like you aren’t even choosing the schools that carefully.

Congratulations! As an added bonus, you get to sit back and relax while most of your fellow seniors go psycho over the next 4-5 months.
