After all the research I've done on colleges, the only one I REALLY like is UCLA, so I'm hoping you guys can give me some suggestions on colleges...

so, without further adu, here are things I'd like at a college.....

What's really important to me is to have a college that is very good socially (good party scene) and academically. People have mentioned ivies, but my stats aren't ivy-caliber, so when I say very good academically, I mean a school that is about as selective as UCLA (for in-state).

A student body with at least 15,000 students

This is kind of an add on to the first listing...I said I'd like a school with a good party scene, but I wouldn't like the party scene to be dominated by frat life

Warm weather, for at least a part of the school year

In Cali:
- UCSD
- UCSB
- USC
- UCB

Texas:
- UT Austin
- Texas A&M

Florida:
- UFlorida
- UMiami

Georgia:
- Georgia Tech

UCSD is not a fun school in any way. It's called UC Socially Dead for a reason.

But I would also look at SDSU and U of A....as safety schools.

Thanks for responding you guys. Although I don't feel the Cali ones that you listed are a fit for me, acarta07 (mostly for different social reasons), but I will look further into the others you recommended.

The 15,000+ enrollment is pretty limiting, as there are very few "elite" schools with that many students (almost all public) and even fewer are located in warm-weather locations.

If you are willing to be a little flexible in your criteria, here are some decent options that are still very solid schools:
Boston University (cold)
George Washington (a bit small)
Georgia Tech (a bit nerdy)
U of Florida
U of Georgia (fratty)
U of Miami
U of North Carolina (tough for OOS)
U$C
U of Texas (tough for OOS)
U of Virginia (ditto, also very fratty)
U of Wisconsin (cold)

The schools Lesser Perfesser and I listed are all top schools. All are within the top 50's with exception to University of Georgia and Texas A&M.
Ultimately they are very selective...

UMiami, GWU, Florida, Texas and Wisconcin, Georgia Tech all have acceptance rates that hover around the low 40's to mid 30's percentiles.
Generally speaking these schools are matches to reaches for most ppl given the relatively low acceptance rates.. All are becoming extremely popular location with application rising by double digit percentages each year so expect it to get harder and harder every year.

Virginia, North Carolina are even tougher and are among the toughest in America (publics). These would most likely be reaches

Boston University (they have the most apps every year however many spaces available), Georgia and Texas A&M while still top schools accept about 60% or more of the applicants so they might be considered ur backups.

Again, they are all top schools, some harder than others but it all depends on ur stats.

UMass? Dunno, just wondering.

UMass has the party scene but not the level of academics that the OP wants.

So how do Boston College and Boston University compare, in terms of academic strength, selectivity, and social life?

Also, I'm interested in Notre Dame. How is the social scene there?

Boston University is a lot easier to get into than BC..
Boston University accepts about 60% of the applicants..
Still like I said earlier, a good school but not quite hard to get in.

Boston College is really tought o get into though easier then the next step: ivy League Schools... Id say its similar to Notre Dame in admissions both are hard.. they admit around 30-40% of the applicants.

Academically: BC>>BU

Socially: BU is closer to the action but dosnt really have a campus or traditional college scene. I know friends who have gone there and hate that and have transferred out while other that could not picture themselves anywhere else cause its awesome to be in the heart of Boston regardless of wether u have a campus or not.

BC is in the suburbs of Boston.. Definately not close to the Boston Nightlife however its in a really upscale suburban neighborhood and has some really nice parks in the surroundings... BC unlike BU has a traditional college scene with school spirit, football, greeks, Baskteball etc...
It also has a "campus."

Wisconsin
Michigan
UNC Chapel Hill
UVA
University of Florida
UT-Austin
University of Washington
UConn

HAHAAHAH Lesser Perfesser, i love the $ in the U$C :p

Is the party scene and Boston College greek dominated?

BigB, check out the University of Michigan and the University of Wisconsin. Michigan is not a party school, but given its size, it has a significant, non-greek party scene.

Those schools do sound interesting, but I'm not a resident of either Wisconsin or Michigan, so even if I did get accepted, tuiton would be much higher, and I'd expect they wouldn't be as generous with financial aid for OOSers.

Merit scholarships...I'm assuming your grades and test scores are all pretty good?
