How many colleges are you applying to (Or have applied)

^^ It doesn’t matter whether it’s undergrad or grad. Even if UPenn has an undergrad, I will still need to get an MBA. It will be easier to be admitted to a grad business school if I am in an Ivy for undergrad already, like Harvard, and it’s easier to gain attention from recruiters from companies like G&S by being in an Ivy.

Princeton

Harvard

Yale

Columbia

U Penn

Dartmouth

Cornell

Duke

Virginia

Delaware

Maryland

Stanford

UCLA

Cal-Berkeley

Whether or not you were in an UG business program doesn’t matter (if you’re going into finance). It’s called networking. Schools such as U Penn, Harvard, and Princeton, have stronger networks then say Dartmouth.

UPenn’s undergrad business program is incredible : Wharton School of Business - gives a lot of pull when applying for jobs

I’m applying to 18 schools
Florida State University, University of Florida, University of Central Florida, New College of Florida, Bard College, Reed College, New York University, Kenyon College, Carleton College, University of Virginia, Columbia University, Brown University, Northwestern University, University of Chicago, Vassar College, Tulane University, University of Southern California, Oberlin College, Macalester College, Grinnell College.

Truffliepuff, aren’t you a sophomore? No need to have a solid list yet…

ANYWAY, I’m applying to:
Cornell ILR (likely ED)
Dartmouth
Colgate
Hamilton
Vanderbilt
Colby
Lafayette
William & Mary
UVa.
Syracuse
Villanova
Penn State or Pitt

So…12. Still subject to change though.

^ Yes I am. And actually, I’m thinking about removing Brown, Dartmouth, Duke, BU, and UMich, so the list definitely isn’t solid yet.

You don’t have to attend an Ivy League school (undergrad or grad) to “break into a good Financing or Investment banking career”. Although I cannot deny that top companies will have a slight propensity for favoring students from these schools.

Seems like you’re after the big bucks. Considering your age, I can’t blame you.

Business degree, from an Ivy. Yeah that’s money-hungry.

You don’t even need to go to a grad business school to get far in finance - as long as you pull the right strings and know the right people

Why did trufflie list USC as a safety? lol

@franticpizza

Example? Curious

@PioneerJones Yes, you dont have to, but it will definitely be easier when it comes to admission to and when applying for grad schools. If you take a look at those in Harvard’s Business School, most were Harvard undergrads.

Haha yes, my family’s going to need fast money if my mom needs chemo.

@LaTina It’s not hard to get into USC…

trufflie! I’m sorry to hear about your mom :(

How are you going to pay for these schools anyway? What’s your family’s income bracket and how many members are in your family?

^ I have an IRA which my dad started for both my brother and I when we were young and we have a large sum of money saved up in our accounts. I’m also going to try and procure as many scholarships as I can and, of course, apply for FA.

I will be applying to 10 schools.
(In order of difficulty from my school)
Stanford
Harvard
Princeton
Caltech
Rice
UChicago
Johns Hopkins
Harvey Mudd
Carnegie Mellon
UW-Madison

What makes you think it’s not hard to get into USC?

I’m only applying to about seven colleges… is that bad? One of them, I consider a safety, a safety that I would be totally fine with attending. I saw no need to apply to any more.

Though, I’d like to…for the ego boost every time I get an acceptance letter :P

I’m a mom just finished the process with my son. I think best keep your list to 10 or less if you want to do a quality job on the applications. Any more than that and you’ll be cutting corners I would think

Of my seven choices, four of them are UCs! So essentially, I’m only going to be filling out four applications!

Actually, five. I just remembered I’m going to apply to UChicago, just to do their fun essays and see if I get in! (Am I a bad person for doing this? lol)

I currently have seven on my list, but probably will only end up applying to five of them. I’m already in to a school which I would be happy to attend, so there’s no point in applying to too many.

Currently at 7.

@truffle:What possessed you to think USC is a safety?
