How many colleges are you guys applying?

I'm applying for 15, and all of my friends make fun of this because they're applying less than 7... I'm not sure if I should narrow my list down a bit but I'm just worried if I won't get into any college lol
So how many are you applying?

8 (2 reaches/2 high match/low reach/2 match/ 2 safeties)

Every Ivy, Stanford, MIT, Cal Tech, Harvey Mudd, UC Berkeley, and UC San Diego.

Applied to Harvard EA, and submitted Cal Tech, Mudd, and Dartmouth apps because I finished those as well. Submitted UCs and am done with MIT (will submit soon). Working on Brown right now. Then I have Stanford, Penn, Cornell, Yale, Princeton, and Columbia left.

Dang! I guess it varies for everyone. I’ll just stick to my 15 college choices… Good luck, peeps :))

I’m applying to four… Haha.

I am a college freshman now, but I applied to 14 schools (5 in the UK; 3 safeties; 3 matches; 3 reaches).

15 is fine.

I applied Harvard EA, like bobtheboy (grrr, my competition), but my list is a little more spead out. I applied to Drexel rolling. I also sent in my apps to Columbia, Yale, and Northeastern, and am working on the MIT one right now.

I’m going to apply to 9 more: 5 matches, 3 more reaches (Ivies), and 1 more safety. Same reason as you - terrified of not getting it. I need to get into at least 1 reach. Then I’ll be okay.

mine is 6. All state schools. Dont really know where to go. I am not that great and kinda poor too, so private is prob not my first choice.

2 publics (including my flagship) and 7 privates.
=
2 reaches. 1 high match. 4 matches. 2 safeties.

EDIT: chainiwatmj – a private school is often more affordable than a public school because of the larger resources of funding. of course every private school doesn’t have a large endowment. you should check their common data set to see the breakdown of the average financial aid package.

For instance, my flagship says i can pay the whole $21,000. and the flagship that I’m OOS for says $28,000. I cannot. the private schools say i can pay $5-11,000. that i CAN pay.

Depends if I get into Notre Dame early action haha. If I’m accepted, then I will only apply to three or four more - all reaches. If not, then between six and ten others, two safeties, two matches and who more than three reaches.

9 schools:

4 safeties, 4 matches, 1 high match.
7 publics, 2 privates.

I’m applying to 10 (4 reaches, 2 matches, 4 safeties). 15 seems a little on the high side but totally fine; I think 5-15 schools is the norm.

I’ve got 11 on my list: 6 privates, 4 UC’s, 1 public out-of-state. the list used to be 16 haha

I am applying to 13 schools:
9 public schools, 4 privates
4 Reaches, 5 Matches, and 4 Safeties

At least 5, hopefully 7.

3 safeties, 2 match, 2 reach.
(2 of the safeties my parents are making me for scholarships -_-)

Yeahhhh…go with what you want because you don’t want to regret anything in the future (like “what it I applied there…”). I applied to 17 btw hahaha (did some international too)

17:

 • Every Ivy except Yale (I hated New Haven)
 • Total of 7 reach, 6 match (including high match), 4 safety

Hopefully I’ll still be standing in January after writing all these essays!

Officially 11 now. Harvard (SCEA), Yale, Stanford, probably MIT, Columbia, Penn, Dartmouth, Amherst, Duke, University of Cambridge (UK), and McGill (Canada).

I’ve already applied to 7 and I might add one or two more
I like too many places…

17:

1 safety (accepted already), 5 matches, 8 reaches, 3 it’ll-take-a-miracle reaches
