Ok so i am looking to apply as a junior transfer to Northwestern, Columbia College, University of Chicago, and NYU. How many credits is too much? Would it be good to have a max of 60 credits or is that too much? Does it look bad to go over that? Im asking this because I know for Berkeley and UCLA you need to have at least 60!

Depends on your situation, I’m transferring with close to 160 (qrtr) units. Look at the schools matriculation agreements is my advice. Also often times many of the classes you have taken are non-transferable–meaning there is no equivalent at the respective transfer school. Hope this helps. Short answer: nothing is “too much.” Also, UCs only accept 90 quarter units, but its OK to apply if you have more.

Depends on the school. Some ivys, for example, won’t let you transfer with more than 60 credits even if you don’t want to transfer them. I had a professor that received 123 credits at community college and then transferred them (only 60) to Georgetown University where she went on to receive a fullride for her bachelors and masters. So it depends on the school, and just check if the courses you are taking will transfer or not to the school you want to attend.

ok thanks for the great info guys! Also, I cant seem to find any of the prerequisites for any of the majors i am interested at these schools. (I’m looking into communication studies and for Columbia an econ major) Should I just email the schools about the major prerequisites?

No the major prereq’s are the core requirements for that college/school in the university that you intend to complete your major it. I’m sure its there, unfortunately, many school websites are very poorly designed.
