How many credits should I take every quarter?

I plan to take Math 20A, CSE 8A, SDCC 1 and Chemistry 6A. However, the total credits of these classes are 11 units. Someone told me that if you want to be a full time student, the total units must be over 11 units. Is that true? Should I take another class? Plus, I took a AP Physics B, and the school gives me 8 units. Can I use the units for this quarter so that I don't need to take other classes? Thank you very much.

When you take CSE 8A, you have to take CSE 8AL (lab) in conjunction with it. 8AL is worth 1 unit. This will give you the 1 extra unit you need to be considered a fulltime student.

Thank you, Artdancer.

Also, the units you gain from AP classes aren’t “used” for a quarter, but factor into your overall accumulated units. They use that number to figure out who gets to sign up when after your first quarter, and to see if you’re allowed to graduate (as you need 180 units to graduate).

Actually, in order to be a “full time student” UCSD says you just need 36 units a year. It doesnt matter if its 16, 16 and 4 the next quarter.
