How many current students now were accepted to the AMerican Legion's Boys state?

Just wondering... because I know my friend, who just finished his 1st year, went to Boys State in H.S.

Well, I'm entering UVa this and I went to Boys State last summer. Why?

just trying to compare myself to previously admitted applicants. thanks though.

I also went to Boys State (FL) and it was a great experience. jumpngo, let me know if you have any other questions about it.

Attended Boys State (Fla). Met a lot of folks at UVA who attended Boys or Girls State...Great Program!

I went last year. There will probably be a pretty large number going to UVa. For example of the four ppl sent from my school all of us got into UVa and three of us are going.

LOL. alright. THat gives me a lot more confidence... fyi, I'm going to Boys state this summer. I wonder if your a VA resident, and you went to boys state, its like an auto acceptance with all high #s... =]

I am almost certain that it isn't a ticket to UVA. But a fair number of people from Boys State im sure are going to UVA, a large (considerin the number of people at boys/girls state) number probably did not get in.

Just to echo what Barq said, participating in some activity is not a ticket to UVa. In fact, participating in "activity A" is not a ticket to get in anywhere (unless that activity includes finding the cure for a major disease like AIDS or cancer.) Your friend may have gone to Boys state and gotten in to UVa, but there are so many more aspects to an application and you cannot judge a person by one extracurricular. It's preposterous. Applicants with similar stats have much different college admissions experiences based on what else they can bring to their application. One may get rejected while another is accepted.

It's like assuming that I would get into Harvard after participating in a summer program just because a friend of mine got into Harvard after doing the program. And since I'm doing econ homework right now, your assumption demonstrates the fallacy of composition: whats true for the individual is true for the group.

Thanks for your input. Just trying to get the best idea of where I currently stand.

Im going over the summer as well, VA resident

Boys/Girls State is a pretty common activity to see on activity sheets these days. As is the case with Eagle Scout/Gold Award, it is not going to have a huge impact on your admission decision.

The strength of your curriculum, your course selections, and your grades are much bigger factors.

lol... pretty common. shucks. What about different programs through school, such as THIMUN (the hague int'l model UN?), and other programs such as High School Diplomats?

what looks nice is not a flashy name, but rather showing commitment and dedication

mhm. what if i'm passionate in almost everything i do? and i do a lot?
