Title.
I want to upload additional info to MIT even though decision dates are in less than 10 days. Whould it even be read? And if not, when do AO’s make decisions and how much is financial aid.
It looks like mid-Feb was the ETA.
If there’s a place to update online, I would email your AO - and ask - will you still accept info.
I would ensure it is pertinent. If you have 5 great activities, another is likely not going to make a difference.
if you won some global award and you can define what it was for and that was something impactful, that’s worthy.
Good luck.
@MoMoniem you can still upload if the portal is still open, but the update should be significant - on the level of a state or national win, something published in a national level publication, etc… they will be finalizing things in the coming days to prepare for Pi day.
As far as financial aid, the MIT net price calculator should be close to where you will end up unless there are some non-typical situations- small business, rental properties, farms, etc… Have you submitted your FAFSA and CSS forms?
Do you have any other acceptances yet? Did you receive your financial aid package from those schools yet? If they are meet 100% need schools your aid would be similar.
With decision 8 days away, everything but maybe the very last handful of tough decisions have likely been made. You can send something, but don’t expect it to be used.
How much financial aid is differs for every applicant.
So, a few points here for those not familiar with MIT’s process
- MIT does not provide a place on their portal to upload information. They have a very specific ask of deferred applicants (via the FUN form) but the deadline for that has passed.
- The MIT admissions office is not regionalized so you can’t email your AO - you can simply email the admissions office (but as others have pointed out above only do this if your update is truly significant.)
- The decision on individual applications is usually completed by late February. After that they are in the “class shaping” process. So unless your update is ground breaking it’s not going to change the outcome.
Decisions are only 8 days away. Just sit back, relax, and hope for the best.
Helpful info. The only thing I will add is that some high schools do have a direct admissions contact, who is identified within Naviance (or any of the other application/research platforms). The AO is identified in my kids’ Naviance, but with the general email/phone info. Not difficult for most MIT applicants to figure out the email addresses of individuals though.
Thanks @Mwfan1921. Yes, some high schools might name an AO in Naviance but most (including my D’s HS) do not. And as per a colleague who was an ex-AO, applications as well as questions are handled by them as a team. That’s why they say they are not regionalized.
