Hi, I will be a COE freshman in the fall. I am taking Math 216, physics 140, ENGR 100, and an ALA class. I’m also planning on joining an engineering project team (one of the smaller ones probably), doing IM sports (maybe not all seasons), and potentially doing a work-study. However, I am hesitant about the work-study because I want to make sure I respect each of my classes and get good grades. I’m also in MCSP, while I probably won’t be heavily involved, I’m looking to at least be somewhat active in that as well. Will the work-study be too much (around 10 hours a week)? I’m prioritizing the project team for engineering experience and IM sports for overall health/fun over Work-study… but the money could also be helpful. If possible, I would like to do all 3 in addition to MCSP but I’m not sure
My now sophomore son in engineering took 18 credits (4 classes with 2 science labs), worked work study, played flag football (Sunday 10:30 pm) and helped found and started a student tech group that took a lot of his time first semester. So yes you can do it but just prioritize your studies always over anything else. Work study is usually very good about when you have tests and lessening your hours. Can always skip a meeting or two when needed. The Im sports is a big outlet for my son. His work study is umpiring softball and referring flag football, this is actually a fun outlet for him as well.
Also goes to all football games etc. But has been known to do homework after the games since Sunday he works and played himself.
Do things that you have an interest in and make you happy.
