My daughter didn't think about applying until this past summer when someone from Harvard College called us, did anyone have similar experience?

What did they say when they called? My s received a letter addressed to him and then about 2 weeks later he received a brochure and a letter stating that they welcome his application.

The lady who called had asked my daughter if she had heard of Harvard College, then she encouraged my daughter to apply & she said if there's any question, be sure to call XXX at ###.

^lol, yea I got a similar call this summer...it actually helped convince me to apply

pure marketing. i got many similar ones. they called me on my cell, so when i called them back when no one was working, i got a voice mail that said that it was a third party company that was making the phone calls.

Here's some background to the phone calls.

Thank you for providing that link, now I know we're "low income" because we got the call. DH is the sole breadwinner of the household & he teaches at a university. He makes the average salary of a professor. Never in our lives have we considered ourselves low income. I guess the cost of higher education has gone way up compared to the rise in average wage making it nearly impossible for many people to attend college without a sizable saving.

so what questions did you ask the caller? did the caller tell you what you needed to know?

A general comment:

At times we feel like we're being stalked. A few days ago we received a mail from one school encouraging my daughter to apply, this one went one step further, it says that according to the info on their list, my daughter has not sent in her app (do they actually track who sent in & who didn't?!), & the deadline is looming...Sometimes I wonder how much private info is being sold to universities. My daughter, just like many of her peers, has been getting an avalanche of mail since jr. year. All that paper waste ends up in our recycling bin, she once jokingly said that she'll go to a school that doesn't send her anything.......hmm...UC Berkeley came to mind..
