ok im a sophomore and I study 2-3 hours. This doenst seem a lot but to me, it does. I cant sit in my room and actually study for a test for a long time, distractions get me, like getting on collegeconfidential or AIM.

SInce I also want to find time reading books, how can i manage my time??

also ppl post how many hours u study daily.

It's simple. Don't open up collegeconfidential. Don't sign on to AIM. In fact, you'd better just unplug your computer now. You might consider hiding the cable too, just for good measure.

Really though, if you have a problem with getting distracted by the computer, isolate yourself from it. Before I had broadband, I found it a lot easier to be responsible about studying because it was so much harder to find distractions that didn't take twenty minutes to load. Now I usually try to get my studying out of the way at the library at the college I take a few classes at, at a practice room at my high school, which are usually pretty quite since no one ever seems to actually practice music, at least not anyone in our orchestra, or even just in a different room in my house without anything distracting.

If you're able to study efficiently, you shouldn't have to spend too much more time than you're spending now studying (at least not schoolwork; extracurriculars may be a different story.) It's just a matter of staying focused.

if you are somone like me, I can find distractions ANYWHERE with anything. used to take me about 3-4 hours to do homework in grade 8 (although we didnt have homework often) becasue I would be foddling with eraser or drawing cartoon on my paper instead of doing the homework.
now I agree computer itself is a huge hi-get-away-from-your-work but its not the only source o distraction out there. deal with it early in your highschool career'll make the next few years easier.

Anywhere from 6 to 13 hours, depending on the homework load/if I choose to do some research on debate/study for SATs/practice my violin and viola...etc.

According to my school's handbook, students are to expect a basic 2 hours of homework every night plus one hour for every AP class. So, I guess I'm doing alright? (I get distracted really easily too).

It doesn't matter how many hours you put in, what matter is that you know how many hours you need to put in to acheive your desired goals. If you study dedicatedly you will always find time for doing other stuff (like reading,CC,etc). To get away from distractions just don't do them.

well my priorities right now rn't good grades right now. They r but college essays come first. So i study before my tests but nothing too major about an hour or two? it really is all relative and depends on ur priorities.
If u think chatting on AIM is more important than doing ur hw then fine, chat on AIM. If u think grades have more priority than AIM etc. then do ur hw. Also the hours rn't important, rather it is do u know the material? some can understand it in a second while some can't. realy depends on ur ability.

I donno about you guys.. but I haven't been paying that much attention to school work for this first quarter of senior year. I just can't FULLY concentrate on school when I have more important things like SAT Is and II's.. college apps , essays ,student council election campaign + siniorities. I wasn't even worried that my grades would go downhill (which is weird since Im usually overly obsessive) but i figured that EA applications are my priority. last month I did a whole 15 minuet presentation on a book I didn't even get to reading (thank go for spark notes).... and for some reason my grades stayed the same and I eventually did get to reading that book after I finished everything else. So I guess everything gets done. .
well anyways this post has no point just felt like rambling..
