Hey guys! I’m deciding between attending UNC or UCLA and part of what impacts my decision is how hard it is to make a certain GPA. Could you please list your major, GPA, and how many hours per week you spend studying?
I can not attest to UNC’s except for the fact that my cousin went there and doubled in Comp sci and business administration and said it wasn’t too bad. But at UCLA, it really depends on the major I suppose. Humanities majors have it petty easy, but if you want to go into communications/engineering/biz econ etc… these majors are incredibly impacted and all pre major classes are graded on a very competitive curve; they simply do not have enough space for the volume of students.
Hours spent studying? Like I said, really depends on major. Personally, I am an engineer and would probably estimate 30-35 hours a week. Let me know if you have any other q’s…
There’s no magic formula to determine how much studying it takes to get a certain GPA. The difficulty and grade distributions of different professors teaching the same class differs, and the amount of time it takes different students to pick up different material differs greatly (i can understand cs concepts pretty easily but it takes me hours to understand simple bio concepts ). Also, difficulty of material varies significantly between various majors and various classes.
Anyway, I’m a CS major with a 3.5+ GPA (don’t want to get too specific here) and I usually spend ~30 hours a week studying and doing projects/homework (15-25 hours for CS, 5-15 hours for the other 3 classes), but it really depends on whether I have a project for CS or not and whether I have midterms/essays for my other classes that week
