How many hours each day do you spend on Calculus?

Calculus 1, 2, 3

Please tell me how many hours you spend each day total, homework and studying for test and quizzes for calculus. And how long does it take to complete the calculus homework?

Highschool calculus bc took two hours of my life each day. It was horrible.

i actually did better in university math classes than high school. I don’t remember how long i spent but in university, the math books have solution manuals making your homework much easier when you get stuck.

In highschool i remember spending forever trying to match my answers with the back of the book cause of a negative error or something. With the solution manual, you don’t need to worry about that!

High school calc AB: 0 hours… final grade D+(lowest I’ve ever had)
College calc 1: 0 hours… final grade A
College calc 2: 0.001 hours… final grade A

Difference between high school and college: paying attention in class.

clocokwork I hate you!

I guess it all comes down to whether or not you`re a math person.

College Calc 2. - about 2 hours to do hw, due once a week

In HS Math I generally got most of the nightly homework completed before I left school, if not, I typically finished it in under 30 min.

In College Calc 1, I spent about 1.5 hrs a week on homework and about an hour prepping for each of the 3 tests. Got an A.

College Calc 2, I spend around 2 hrs a week on homework and prepping for the weekly quiz and probably spent about 2 hrs prepping for the midterm. Getting an A so far.

Calculus AB: About 45 min a day, and I got an A. I’m definitely a math person.

You spent 3.6 seconds a day studying calc 2? I highly doubt that.

To the OP: College Calculus is alot harder than AP Calc, atleast at my school it is. Just wait for Calc. 3 or DiffEQ, you’ll have fun then.

Calc 2… four hours per week. Taking it right now, one test left… I have a 98% or something.

I am definitely not a math person. I do understand the concepts, but I’m not that meticulous a person. When I lose a minimum of 5 points to 15 points per test due to careless mistakes, I tend to become very frustrated. (mistakes like putting sec instead of arcsec, forgetting to put pi in final answer when the beginning equation is 2pi r^2 or just adding numbers wrong)

Just for calc AB : I have prepped anywhere from 0 hours to 6 hours for tests.

Maybe about 15-30min a day doing hw.

I’m in Calc 2 and the professor says Calc 3 is a lot easier. Confirm/deny?

I did 1-2 hours of calc homework every night in high school, and I STILL got a B. =(

That is de facto false for the classes I took, but I don’t think I took a typical Calc 3 class. The class had a linear algebra prerequisite, and we proved 90% of the multivariable calculus theorems rigorously - starting with a section on the topology of Euclidean space. We never had time for more than one computational example in each section of the book.

I thought Calc 2 as a breeze. It was just an application and/or extension of the concepts from Calc 1. New techniques and new problems, but no new concepts.

Calculus 1- Very tedious and what not. Hw for about 6 hours a week, due 3 times a week. Ended up with a B because I bombed the final.
Calculus 2- Much more straight forward. Hw for about 7 hours a week, but when it comes to exam time, I study for about 15-30 minutes for each exam. Exam 1-93. Exam 2-92. Exam 3-TBA.
DO THE WORK. if you understand the HW, there are only so many questions they can ask you on the test. if you understand the material, the tests are like HW problems.

Easton722, that was very informative, now I’m ready to kick Calculus 1’s butt next year. heh

I have a book called 3000 Solved Problems in Calculus. That plus my homework is mostly how I study. For me Calculus is fun, so I enjoy doing those problems. I don’t really study that much for any of my classes, I just don’t have the time. I think I managed to fit in about an hour of study before my last calc test (which I haven’t received a grade on, yet).

^^

Hey, that’s the Calculus book we used in my AP Calculus class! :)

i think it’s the most popular calc textbook, anyway, having free answers on the internet is so awesome.

Cal…cu…lus 3!!! Why would that much math be needed??? Im in high school taking AB and Im personally hating it! I get 94-96% on all my test but i absolutely despise doing math homework (math work in general!)! Will I have to take this ‘wonderful’ calculus “3” when i go to college if i major in Linguistics?
