@MYOS1634 technically I haven’t been through my first week of classes, and my job didn’t even start yet, but it’s going well so far. Just a lot of figuring out logistic things like how to access everything I need on/off campus (or things online). I’m just glad orientation week is over because that was awful. Thank you for asking
Oh, I’m sorry your orientation week didn’t go well, because usually it’s fun and a good opportunity to meet people, get used to the campus…
@MYOS1634 It felt a lot like summer camp to me in that we had counselors and LOTS of mandatory activities and had to inform our counselors if we couldn’t go to something or had to leave early.
I think the number of hours you work completely depends upon:
- major or types of classes (a lot of reading, labs, etc.);
- number of units;
- rigor of school
- commuter or live on-campus
Maybe start off on the low end of hours and see how it goes.
I was a commuter, went to school full time (15 units on average) and had 2 part-time jobs (+ work study my freshman year) that probably totaled 20 or so hours a week. My husband worked only in the summer once he hit a 4-year school. Both of us went to Cal states - I had a much higher GPA than he did. I think the busyness forced me to be very efficient with my time.
