How many HSLers are giving/gave a graduation speech?

Just to show off how wicked smart we are :)

I was only salutatorian :b, but I am still writing a speech

i will in 3 years ^^

lol you’ve got spunk kid haha

random color for 10 seconds

I will in 2 years. Maybe valedictorian, maybe salutatorian. A girl and I are jockeying for first. She has it right now by .0106, but she studies intensely past midnight every night, whereas I don’t study at all, and the next two years are only going to get harder, so… Here’s to hoping she slips up, but not so much that her GPA is completely destroyed.

studying that much at the expense of sleep is probably not a good thing

If it makes you feel any better, I was in the same situation and not being #1 didn’t hurt my college application any, so I’ll still wish both of you luck (?)

lol, if I became influential enough in my school, I probably would

lol why am I commenting so much in this thread?

lol because you started it.

I realized that it’s impossible for me to be Val or Sal due to scheduling in MS, so I live with being my personal best. Even though my dad is disappointed.

I personally just want an opportunity to speak, but if I weren’t inclined to do that, I wouldn’t really care about rank as long as I got to go to a college that fit my personality

Me. Valedictorian. I’ve never been so nervous in my life v_v

Valedictorian speeches are always pretentious and arrogant. I know many wonderful people who have been valedictorians, and without fail they sound like snobs when they speak. It’s a requirement.

^ Oh not always. In my country is it always the senior class president (head boy/girl) who speaks, not the valedictorian (dux). And at my brother the class president is always the tall guy who is in the crew/rowing team. So when he speaks it isn’t that pretentious, well not really.
But I think the valedictorian speech can be humorous and entertaining for the students without the speaker sounding so “I’m superior because I graduated valedictorian”.

Last I heard, I was a candidate. Don’t know if the decision’s been made yet. I always assumed I’d be chosen because I am the least likely to write a cliche speech, but turns out my competition happen to be creative intellectual souls (as opposed to the usual overly-ambitious a$$), so maybe not…

This is what I will strive for next spring.

Help needed: Is there some place where I can view a sample of a valedictorian speech that’s semi-entertaining/memorable/not-pretentious? Thanks.

Not high school speeches, but maybe useful.

I had to give a speech because I was Valedictorian. I didn’t like that.

I don’t think mine sounded pretentious, even if it was based on an essay about chaos theory that I had read.

Haha, thanks noimagination, I just bookmarked that page for future reference. (I’m not that funny though, so trying something like that for the first time on graduation day may not be a good idea.) I think I’ll go with something more conventional, but then it’s probably pretentious and boring… Oh well, too bad :P.

This one would have to be my favorite.
