Out of the 5200 or so applicants SCEA, I was wondering how many are international ?
Do we know the ratio for past years ?

There are thousands…and it is going to be very competitive this year…it seems all int’l applicants apply SCEA…

Is there any official information on this matter? (Not that I don’t believe you, omega )

I know that 1 in 10 accepted students are international, but I’m not sure how many apply…

Is this for both RD and SCEA or for SCEA only? For some reason it seems too good to be true :D

OK…let me tell you demographic info upon which I make two conclusions:

FIRST CONCLUSION:
According to CollegeBoard’s “International Student Handbook 2009”, there were 5,291 undergraduates in Yale out of which 444 were internationals (both with and without FA). Now based upon my own calculations and assumptions, these 444 students constitutes 8.39% of the total undergrad population. Assuming that these 444 int’l’s are evenly distributed in the four years of undergrad, there will be 111 entering international students each year. Once again assuming that SCEA and RD accepted make up 50% of each class respectively, there are 55 SCEA accepted each year. If Yale maintain their 8.39% during the SCEA periods also, there must be around 650-700 international SCEA applicants each year.

SECOND CONCLUSION:
Yale demands that they accept 9% of students each year according to the Collegeboard website. They also claim that they possess 10% Non-Resident Aliens a.k.a. Internationals and that Yale’s freshmen population is 1,318 students. Based upon this, they must have 132 international freshmen. Assuming this too as a 50-50 division between accepted in the two rounds, there will be 66 SCEA accepted. If the 9% acceptance rule applies for int’l students during SCEA too (although its a bit higher, but not significant because its a ‘self competitive’ pool) then there are going to be around 700-750 SCEA int’l applicants.

NOTE
- The final results of both conclusions seem to lie in the same range.
2. Conclusions have been based upon two assumptions (Note 2 & 3)
3. One is that the SCEA and RD accepted make up 50% of the class respectively
4. Next, the overall acceptance applies to international also
5. Despite all of this, we know that there are many applicants from each country
both in SCEA and RD rounds, so the above two conclusions, if not fully, seem
the most logical

Thank you, omega!!
