How many Ivy League Schools did you apply to?

^In many situations in which prestige is pertinent, the only Ivies that carry prestige are Harvard, Yale, and Princeton, as many of the people who are shallow enough to consider prestige (like bad employers) have not heard of or are aware of the Ivy League status of Dartmouth, Brown, University of Pennsylvania, Cornell, and Columbia.

one, being Dartmouth, but I would have also applied to Brown and UPenn. They’re all fantastic schools, but some of em aren’t right for me. :)

Columbia ED!!

If I didn’t get in would have applied to: (in order of preference)
Yale
Brown
Dartmouth
Harvard

I’ve been really confused by some EA acceptances. Dartmouth was loosely placed in the second half of my “Most Desirable Colleges” grouping, and I got into one of the ones in the top half. But maybe the top half was just the top half because I thought they were all impossible. Also, I was pooled, essentially waitlisted, at my tippy top college and I find out before the end of January if I get in and all the details of that. I just don’t want to waste Dartmouth’s time if I figure out that the acceptances I have now make me not want to go, that I’m only in the running because I submitted way before I had those acceptances.

It seems to me that Columbia is quite prestigious. Not like HYP, but it’s none too shabby. And Wharton, if not UPenn as a whole, has a pretty shiny escutcheon too.

Just 2.
Yale and Harvard

Wharton is very well respected in the business sector I hear…

Just Princeton for me. Several things, including the emphasis on research, attracted me. I should also add MIT; while not one of the eight, it is equal to and/or better than them.

talking about prestige… I used to live in Hong Kong so I think I can give a more “international” view (well of course an inter. student can do a better job but still)

first, of course most employers out there around the world know bout HYP, I know these schools when I was like 7
Columbia, Penn and Cornell are fairly well known Id say
Brown is pretty decent too
the ivy with the least prestige in the world would be dartmouth (Yes I know that it’s not the case in the US, but I NEVER heard of dartmouth before I was in HS)

but it doesn’t rly matter, everyone here would agree that the name of ivy league should get u to anywhere around the world (well tho that’s not why I applied to Cornell lol)

None. I contemplated applying to Brown, but didn’t like the atmosphere when I visited.

Princeton, Yale, and Stanford

Of course, Stanford isn’t an Ivy, but I think it’s similar enough to be mentioned here.

Top job employers, good or bad, will consider prestige. All of those schools are well-known to top job employers.

For those wondering, the tallies stand as follows:

1 - 3 (12%)
2 - 4 (16%)
3 - 6 (24%)
4 - 5 (20%)
5 - 4 (16%)
6 - 2 (8%)
7 - 0 (0%)
8 - 1 (4%)

Stanford is on the west coast, gives athletic scholarships, and was founded in the late 1800s. It’s no more similar than Vanderbilt, Emory, Chicago, Duke, or a horde of others.

^And yet the most popular acronym on this site is HYPSM…

It’s certainly considered one of the most prestigious schools in the country. Someone else on this thread mentioned applying to MIT for the same reason.

one; Columbia (accepted)

Only Brown. Although the only other one I visited was Cornell, and I wasn’t keen on applying to places I hadn’t at least seen first.

Dartmouth and Brown…

i also applied to all 8 of them (yes, guilty of being a prestige whore here)

harvard
princeton
yale
cornell
columbia
dartmouth
brown
penn

Brown.

It needs to come on and realize the connection we have, already.

Where I am going to apply

In Order of Preference

Columbia
Penn
Harvard if I get my SAT higher
Princeton if I get my SAT higher
Brown

I dont like cornell dartmouth or yale because they are in too small cities

THREE of em’

Brown
Dartmouth
Cornell

Would be FLOORED if I got into any of the three. =]

I applied to Cornell for ED, and was accepted, so just one for me xD (and I had meant to apply to only one Ivy)
