I am applying to college this fall and have been looking at the requirements for letters of recommendations for colleges. Most of my colleges list that 1 teacher recommendation is necessary while an additional one is optional. I used to think that you shouldn’t give more than what they required because it may look like overcompensation but would an extra letter of recommendation be valued because of covid-19? I know that colleges are going test optional (I am personally sending a score) so maybe they need more information from recommendations, but I’m not sure.
Assuming the college accepts additional LoRs, one extra is fine. More than one is not, IMO
I don’t think two is excessive, especially if they request one plus one optional. If it was two and one optional, I’d say the optional one would be more iffy. And don’t send more than required+optional.
But in this case, I’d send a second, assuming it’s positive and adds value to your application.
Thank you!
