Try to visit schools in your Junior Year. That spreads out the number of missed days. Son ended up applying to only 5 schools, 2 of which were “local” (day trips). Selecting audition days on the weekend and “school” holidays minimized the number of missed days (one or two ever couple of weeks).

The problem with sending your kid alone to an audition is the time of year. If it were the summer time, a thunderstorm might delay the flight a few hours. No big deal. However, with auditions in Jan/Feb/Mar, if they get snowed in, having an adult there can make all the difference - take a train, rent a car, etc. Easy for an adult with a credit card and driver’s licence, tough for someone who might not even be 18 yet.
