How many NM Semi Finalists at your school? Is my school abnormal?

rain mama, my sons school is the same with one Major difference. there are NO rankings! it relieves the stress and cut throat attitudes. The colleges already know how competitive the private North eastern schools can be! good luck

Out of a class of about 560, 4 were National Merit Semi-Finalists. One of them had a score of 240.

we had 6 out of 52 and I go to a public school

We had 30 something out of about 150. Over half the students were SFs or commended.

The class of '08 at my public school this year had 5 commended out of about 300. No sf’s.

Class '09 had 1 person out of 300 get above a 200, but probably a commended.

Our public school has 5/155 this year…usually around 4, and the cutoff in our state is low enough most make SF or finalists

I’m 99.9% sure that my school has never had anyone even remotely close to NMS. The first person to get accepted to an Ivy in my school’s history (which is around 8 years) was a current senior who was accepted to Harvard with an 1800 SAT.

no one gets that at my school.

In the class of 2008 there were 16 semifinalists out of a 662 class size. I think 2009 will be similar, judging by the number of people who got the letters for a commended or semifinalist score.

typically we have 10 semifinalists and commended combined. for whatever reason, more semifinalists tends to mean less commended. search me.

that is- in a (public charter school) class of 50. so 20% is natl merit recognized one way or another. we do still rank but i don’t think that’s lasting long.

25% of our class gets semifinalist and/or commended (stats from school website bragging  ) its not that big of a deal at our school..

D’s school had 41 NM Finalists in a class of 154.

It is interesting to note, however, that of the 5 students who were accepted by Harvard, only 2 were NM Finalists.
