I’m pretty sure there are around 150 semifinalists at my school most years. Class size is 400.

Wow, your schools are crazy.. we have 10/500 semifinalists..

My school, which is actually considered to be rigorous private high school surprisingly only had one semifinalist in the class of 2008 (I am '09). The reason why I say this is surprising is that in all Honors and AP classes at my school, the total homework level is around 5-6 hours per night, and there is very little grade inflation. What could explain this is the fact that my school is in MA, which has the highest cut-off (224, I believe).

However, there were 26 Commended students an one Achievement scholar out of a class of approx. 300-350 students.

I’m not sure whether this is good or bad compared to other schools, but just thought I’d weigh in.

For D’s School:
batch of 2008 (2006 PSAT): 43 NMSF/53 Commended/ 170
batch of 2007 (2005 PSAT): 52 NMSF/42 Commended/ 165

So it has gone down for the 2008 batch.

My son’s scores for TN were 99th percentile on the PSAT papers sent to our house (he took the test as a junior back in October).

His score was a 216 and 99th percentile.

Does that mean he should end up a semifinalist?

What do you think?

my school has 135 students in the senior class.. we have 17 semifinalists

Another Tennessee parent here. I assume you are from Nashville? For NMSF, the class of 2008 cutoff was 213, the class of 2005 was 217 if you check some other posts on these boards. Your child stands a fairly good chance of being a NMSF. My daughter, who usually kind of stresses out on standardized tests, really shocked me with a 224!
We live in Nashville too
Good luck! We will have to wait until April or May for a letter from the NMSC informing us that we did well enough to be in the running. If your child’s selectivity index score did NOT have an asterisk next to it, that means you are in very good shape to get at least commended

I’m the only one in my school. My score was a 228. Second highest score was a 208. I must be an anomaly.

We usually have about 5 semi-finalists I think. This year I’ve heard our guidance office expects four, though. Out of about 240 students (regular public school, NH).

32 out of 160

6 semi-finalists of like 400-450 kids last year.

This year I know that I and two friends of mine will qualify. Also, a third friend is right on the border.

Weird; I would have expected more. (We’re in MD, though, so the cutoff is in the 220s.)

9 out of 500. This is an all-time record and makes us the school with the 2nd most semi-finalists in the state. 200+ public schools in the state, and other schools are much bigger.

.

You and me both. The second highest score in my school was a 190 (and the third a 172). I got a 222.

Our class of 505 had only one commended student. One person got over a 2000 on the SAT. Two got a 30 on the ACT or higher. However, we have huge AP classes with a large pass prcentage. Wierd huh.

Me three. small class of around 60. 232, but next highest score was around 180. i guess that everyone thinks its no big deal

Eight was a record at my school. There are usually about four in a class of, like, five hundred.

we had about 20… the class size is less than 400

14/about 685, there were 2 perfect scores of 240.

At my son’s school, there was an amazing 24 students who were singled out as being semi finalists( my son included), and another 22 as commended out of a senior class of 125 students!!! Its a VERY prestigious private school in Connecticut. as a matter of fact, 10 seniors were excepted to Yale!
So obviously your school also has a rigorous curriculum with very high acheiving and motivated students!! good luck in college!

as a matter of fact, I teach in a public school in Connecticut, a typical upper middle class school, and only 1 student was a semi finalist, out of a class of 350! I dont think 1 school had 150, unless the standards are a lot lower in his/her state. In Ct you have to have had at least a 2200 to be commended. Over 2300 to be a semi finalist.
