How many of you people are valedictorians?

i am 1 of 3 valedictorians out of a class of 121. our policy is pretty fair, i think.

what are you guys doing about speeches? my graduation is tonight and i've got my speech written, but i hope it isnt too cliche. eh, oh well. i'll never see most of those people again, and the ones i do see wont judge me on a 4 minute speech.

I am too! 1 of 569, I believe...

Is this method of choosing valedictorian an American thing, or is my school just strange?

At my (public, Canadian) high school, the valedictorian is chosen by faculty and admin, often after feedback from graduates. The person does not necessarily have to be top of the class, and the process is more holistic, looking at participation in extracurriculars and reputation among the graduates.

Do I just go to a weird school?

I was 2/198 after junior year, but apparently I'll have moved up to the #1 spot if I can manage an A in AP English this 4th quarter.

Ebony--I've been misjudged just like you have--just because I'm val and quiet, people think I'm stuck-up. I've never said or done anything to merit being called arrogant, though, so it makes me sad that some people think that I think I'm better than them.

1/454... we used to have 800 kids in our class but...yea
don't think it's worth a fight though, you take classes that you love and that's what it's all about...some people at my school feel otherwise....

1 / 1050

just graduated last weekend - final rank is 3rd out of 435. Yeah we used to have close to 400 but the others dropped out or such

*woops, meant to say 500

1/approx. 450

Took every AP at our school and somehow managed to stay on the tennis team for all four years. Damn science...I had to stay at school till 8 a few times because of the after-school labs.

I'm 1/~160. I don't want to be, though (I explained it in another post titled "Fear of Public Speech" or something along those lines.)

me and my best friend are tied for #1 / ~220. I'm taking more APs next year, though.

1/~200, but like others have said - the rest of my class aren't really that smart and we also have a pretty high drop out rate.

230/400

geeez, do you people have lives

Well, as it turns out, I ended up ranked #1 out of 97 or so people. Because I spent a semester studying abroad, though, they told me that I wasn't allowed to speak at graduation. Silly policy. I got over it; I figured that the people who were second and third actually deserved it more, seeing as how they did the whole studying/work hard thing.

I'm 1/~380+

I'm 1/555, but my school doesn't recognize a valedictorian.

Im 2/~550. but after taking psycho summer classes I should be # 1.
The top maybe 15 kids are really competitive but after that its a bunch of people who dont care. and around the 500 mark, its a bunch of slackers. Druggies are from 4-550. The number 4 girl is actually the biggest crack addict at our school. hahaha.

Im def speaking at grad. I have lots of people that i have to make shoutouts to and lots of people I have to tell that i hate. those b*tches didnt think i could do it, but i'll show them.

im 1/270 at my school

count one more.. graduated as 1/650
