How many of your parents don't want you to go to Yale??!!

<p>Apart from financial aid, why would a parent NOT want their kid to attend Yale?</p>

<p>It’s not that they don’t want me to go to Yale, but it seems they’d prefer if I go to Harvard, pretty much because of the name. They don’t get it.</p>

<p>I think my parents are secretly hoping I’ll be rejected. They want me to stay in-state, so the fact that Yale is about 1000 miles away bothers them quite a bit…</p>

<p>RaulMejia–if you are bright enough to qualify for these 2 ivy league schools, you should be able to convince your parents why Yale over Harvard is your choice. Your parents have a lot on their minds with you going off to any college (you may not ‘get’ this until you’re the dad of an 18 year old). Ease their concerns and know you’ve done right by your elders!</p>

<p>My parents would be very happy if I got into Yale! They’d be very happy with any of the HYPS lot.</p>

<p>My parents did not want me to go to Yale initially, but after they got the financial aid information back, they were more than thrilled to ship me off to New Haven.</p>

<p>I saw this thread and had to join in, even tho I’m a stanford scea applicant! haha well my dad says he is NOT going to let me go to Stanford if I get in, all he cares about is the Ivy League or my state school (because it’s cheap). </p>

<p>Between state and Yale, it is more than $100K difference. So as a parent, I am quite reluctant to pay for Yale.</p>

<p>^Yale’s FA is amazing only if your family income is below a certain amount. For some upper middle class families and ‘rich’ families, Yale can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to attend.</p>

<p>Same, my parents want me going somewhere closer. My dad offered me 10k a year if i would go to the local community college. He was only half kidding.</p>
