I'm a second year, and I already took a P/NP grade for one of my Geography GEs (so horrible). Right now, to experiment, I'm taking a Philosophy class as a GE that I also can't stand. (and only because I couldn't get into one of my prereqs, is why I'm stuck in this class) Would a second P/NP look so horrible? I rather focus on the two other classes that I'm taking this quarter.

Any P/NP where a grading option is available looks bad. People will generally assume that you got less than a B because there’s really no reason to not take it for a grade if otherwise. It’s essentially a red flag.

I’m fairly certain graduate schools don’t care if you’ve taken P/NP courses for SRPs or Fiat Luxes or 1 to 2 unit things like that, because I’m assuming they realize the difference(if a course is 1 or 2 units it’s not an important one). Anyone know if that assumption is correct?

I asked a counselor that question last year, she said you could do one P/NP a year, but even that sounded a little high to me… I guess it depends on what kind of grad or professional school you’re applying to, since some are obviously more competitive than others. I took one class P/NP last year too, and I might also take one P/NP this quarter, but I’m gonna try not to take any more after that.

fiat luxes and SRPs dont have the option of letter grading, so P/NP doesnt matter. its when you choose P/NP over letter grading that it looks bad.

When is the deadline to change the grading basis of a class to P/NP?
