Anyone know the acceptance rate of how many people become finalists?

i’d imagine it varies significantly from program to program. judging from the activity and amount of posts on the threads on college confidential, it’s gotta be a very sizeable chunk of the total admissions applicant pool. i mean, it’s essentially applying for free money - so why wouldn’t you?

Ervin/Rodriguez/Danforth are definitely the biggest ones because they apply to so many different types of people, and the more “academic” ones are smaller because they’re so specific. The acceptance rate for the scholarships has got to be less than what it is for general admission.

for what it’s worth, i didn’t even apply for them. during freshman orientation (as is common at probably every other college) when you make friends and talk about the other colleges you got into and why you came to Wash U, i’d say that about half my friends applied for one and the other half didn’t. i know two total kids in the Danforth, a couple in Ervin, a couple in Rodriguez, and one of the Writing scholarship students. I have yet to encounter a University Medicine Scholar – but it’s rumored they exist :)

ah thanks! does anyone know specifically about lien?

I think my year the letter said there were about 1500 honorary scholar apps. Moog, Compton, Lien, Mylonas all together.
