How many people sign up for languages thats a different heritage from theirs?

The answer has no effect on my decision, but I'm a South Asian who really wants to learn Japanese. How often do you guys see things like this?

Common. No big deal. If you want to learn Japanese just learn it.

It’s not unusual. When I lived in Hawaii, I had a lot of caucasian friends that took Japanese and Korean in college.

Do what you want to do and don’t worry about what others think. I’m black/filipino and I’m studying French and Swedish. If you prefer to study Japanese, then study it.

How often do you see white people take Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, or any European variant that they have no ancestry in?

Hey, I’m a pure Italian kid that speaks Spanish very well. =) Just study what interests you, not what is your heritage’s language is.

^My point was that you see it a lot.

Oh, sorry Senior0991. Didn’t mean to sound like I was disagreeing with you. =) I just read the original poster’s post, and then posted haha.
