How many people...

If you want crime stats for the campus check these out (conviently buried on trincoll.edu) <a href="http://www.trincoll.edu/TrinColl/Templates/Generic1WithGatewayDropDown.aspx?NRMODE=Published&NRORIGINALURL=%2fStudentLife%2fHealthSafety%2fCampusSafety%2fAnnualReport%2ehtm&NRNODEGUID=%7b4CB02632-C329-45A6-BBDB-FD53200B9203%7d&NRCACHEHINT=NoModifyGuest#annual%5B/url%5D">http://www.trincoll.edu/TrinColl/Templates/Generic1WithGatewayDropDown.aspx?NRMODE=Published&NRORIGINALURL=%2fStudentLife%2fHealthSafety%2fCampusSafety%2fAnnualReport%2ehtm&NRNODEGUID=%7b4CB02632-C329-45A6-BBDB-FD53200B9203%7d&NRCACHEHINT=NoModifyGuest#annual</a> and here are the ones for Hartford itself <a href="http://hartford.areaconnect.com/crime1.htm%5B/url%5D">http://hartford.areaconnect.com/crime1.htm</a> and this one is more detailed (but four years old) and breaks down the crime by neighborhood (Trinity is in the Frog Hollow Neighborhood) <a href="http://www.hartfordpolice.com/Info_Pages/Stats.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.hartfordpolice.com/Info_Pages/Stats.htm</a> and if you lookt at this one you see that every time crime makes a wide fluctuation (for example murders went from 44 in 2003 to 17 in 2004) the city makes a deal of it hoping it will keep up but crime invariable goes back to normal levels <a href="http://www.hartford.gov/police/PR/Crime%20Stats%20End%20of%20Year%202004%20draft%202.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.hartford.gov/police/PR/Crime%20Stats%20End%20of%20Year%202004%20draft%202.htm</a></p>

Well, its like I said to someone else, I agree with you, but don't just take my word for it, get on the internet, seek out some people you can talk to...don't take what I say for gospel, im just trying to let people know what I didn't.

A posse - lol. I can see it now...a bunch of popped-collar white kids walking through the ghetto. Yeah, I'd feel safe in being a member of that group cough

Anyway, thanks for the info. Seeing how I'm now in the RD pool, it may come in handy if I ever have to make a final decision about where to go.

lol, thats exactly what it was, pink shirts and all, I saw them leave and I couldn't help but laugh. u know, when i came here, i thought a lot of schools were this preppy but upon visiting friends at other schools ive come to the conclusion that they are just so much worse here, lol

Well, I'm a non-conformist (not by choice, I just happen to be a loser with no friends, so things work out like this), so from my point of view this means two things: a) why go someplace only if you'll fit in? Somebody has to take the initiative if anything will change. b) Why should I sacrifice what everybody agrees is a very good education at Trinity, just because the other kids are pricks? I get along 50x better with my teachers in school than I do with the kids (my school is upper-middle class preppy, and everybody drives a new mercedes or lexus)

While I was looking forward to the 'social life' of college, I think that academics is by far the #1 priority when choosing which one to go to when you'll be spending so much money. Of course, being the loser that I am, perhaps I'm just deprived of adequate information that would suggest social life is more important than it logically should be.

Don't forget that college is 50% academic, 50% social. If you miss out on that last half, it will probably be hard to thoroughly enjoy college.

Anarchy, Academics are the most important thing and Trinity does have good academics (which i thought outweighed the things I did not like about the city and the people), but so does oh...Wesleyan, just at random...so there are lots of options to consider. If you decide you want to come to Trinity (and there are people who do like it here, though not that I've seen post on this board) stay over night with someone (we offer that, im not sure when) meet as many people on campus as you can...just know what you're getting into, you may find you really would like it here, you may not.

I'd like to, but I have a screwed up family, and for my parents, the 3 hour drive to Trinity would be far too much of an imposition on them and their VALUABLE time (they get home from work at 3pm and watch TV the rest of the night...)

I'm pretty much a non-conformist, though not radically. I just will not change my ways and behaviors to fit in with people and make friends, so my four years in an uber-preppy HS have pretty much sucked (no I'm not a goth or any of that crazy stuff). I don't even fit in with the losers or the other rejects; I definately could care less about my time in high school. So, on the one hand I think I know what I'll be getting into, and on the other hand, I don't think it'll be any different at Trinity than any other campus.

Anarchy, for my case, I hope you're wrong about all schools being the same (or at least wrong about Binghamton University, where I'm transfering) and from what you're saying, Trin sounds a lot like you're high school. Out of curiosity, are u going to school in New England...no offense, but from what I've seen and heard, this preppy mentality at colleges (and i guess highschools) is prevalent in New England schools, you might consider going to a school outside of New England. For example, I visited both Cornell in upstate NY and Harvard (no i didn't think i could get in, but my friend goes to Boston College so while I was visiting her I checked it out) and I found the Cornell students to be much more 'down to earth' (for ivy leaguers anyway). Also, see if you can convince you're parents to allow you to take a bus or train down and check out campuses on you're own, my parents were the same way (luckily, my grandma was bored during the time i was touring and she took me to most schools).

Well, I dont live in de facto New England, but my part of the state considers itself just that - I go to school in Niskayuna, which is a Schenectady suburb, about 20 miles from Albany, New York. I dont have the money to go someplace far away, and I like the New England area (esp. Conn.) - too many wierdos in CA, and too many republicans everywhere else. I've applied to schools in Chicago, Pennsylvania, New York (though I really want to go out of state), Mass., D.C. and Connecticut. The thing is, money is a major issue (thus why I really want to get into trinity), so I don't really have a choice of where I am going.

Anarchy24, didn'y you apply ed2 to Trinity?

Yes I did....

When do you find out?

Letter is dated 11-Feb, was mailed 14-Feb and received 17-Feb (and they said Id have it by the 15th!):

I am writing to you in light og your request that we make an early decision about your application....the Committee on Admissions has given thoughtful consideration to the material in your file, but we believe we must review the applications of all of our candidates before making a final decision on your application. blah blah blah...

I emailed the admissions office and they said that they do give due consideration to applications that were deferred from ED because of the committment expressed thereof, and that a VERY small number of ED applicants were deferred. (I read an article from the school newspaper that said only half the ED applicants were accepted this year, which is down from 60% last year). On the other hand, RD has a 30% acceptance rate, and I will be competing against people who are applying to trinity as a safety while they apply to the ivys. Though my average GPA through Junior year was only 3.0, I got a 3.45 and a 3.8 in the previous two quarters, so maybe itll help my case. They say defered, I say rejected, but perhaps there is still a glimmer of hope?

Anarchy24, I see an opportunity for you to matriculate into a school that is less preppy and might give you more aid.

Where else did you apply?

George Washington University
American University
Fordham University
Syracuse University
Ursinus College
Loyola Chicago (accepted)
SUNY Buffalo (my GC made me apply, but I refuse to go here)

I really wanted to go to GWU but the cost is $46k a year and I highly doubt theyll give me enough money. Besides, my GPA sucks so I dont stand a chance of merit-based aid or scholarships

My guidance counselor made me apply to Binghamton (which I refused to go to) and I am now transferring there. From what I have heard Syracuse gives horrible financial aid and I don't know too much about the others. Buffalo may be the best price (because its a SUNY) and if you are going to be forced to go to the school that gives u the best price (and you don't want to go to Buffalo) i would look into other cheap schools that you would consider going to (its not too late to apply to schools with rolling admissions like Stony Brook or Binghamton). It's not that I'm saying you should go to a SUNY if you don't want to, but if you're going to be forced to, find one u like better than Buffalo. Also, Buffalo, as well as Albany, have a reputation as being party schools while Bing, Stony and Geneseo (which may also have rolling admissions, idk) are seriously academic schools.

I applied RD to Trinity just b/c I need another match school. I only looked at the stats and programs for the school and it seemed decent to me. I was happy about the location too b/c it's in Hartford which is about 45 minutes away from where I live (I applied to schools around my area). But now that jtvoyager posted about the major safety issues on and surrounding the campus, Trinity is probably on the bottom of my list (if I got in, that is).

Thanks for the info, jtvoyager.

Anarchy24, you will get into many schools on that list and many are in decent areas.

I just hope they give me $30k a year in grants, plus fed aid -_-
