<p>I applied to 13 BS/MD programs (counting only med schools). I thought it might be overkill when I was applying, but as rejections have come in, I'm really glad that I did. I got into BU and 2 other progs, was offered interviews at 4 others, and rejected from another 5. If I hadn't applied to BU, I would only have acceptance at UConn or DUCOM (Brown is very unlikely for me).</p>
<p>It seems like most people on this forum apply to well under 10 programs, and I was curious as to why? They are so highly competitive than applying to 13 was actually a good decision for me. Is it a financial issue with application costs or interviewing?</p>
<p>I applied to 9 programs and got into 3, Brown still pending. I got interviews for 5 (if you count Brown). I didn’t apply to more because I didn’t think it was necessary. I felt confident that I would get into at least two of the programs I applied to since I had good stats and can write well. I also made sure that two of the programs I applied to were “safeties” that I felt I could get into easily, though I only got into one of those. Maybe I was arrogant to think that I would do well in the interviews, but I think things worked out pretty well. If I went back in time, I wouldn’t apply to more programs, but might change which ones I applied to, such as not applying to one of the safeties (I didn’t like it, wasn’t planning to go no matter what, and only applied to ease my parents’ stress) and applying to a program I didn’t know about before, Alabama’s EMSAP. You have to keep in mind that even though these programs are very competitive good stats and good writing ability will likely get you into at least one, though maybe not a top program like Rice, Brown, or Northwestern. I have four other classmates who got into Drexel programs. As long as you’re well-informed and worked hard in high school, there’s nothing to worry about. I don’t think you really had any need to worry, neoevolution, even if your interviews didn’t go well.</p>
<p>My D only applied to 4. We didn’t even know about these programs until some time in October so we hadn’t discovered all of them yet. We still looked at the ones we did find carefully before choosing which ones to apply for. In the midwest the ACT is popular so she did not take the SAT’s and that limits you right there.</p>
<p>Some we eliminated because of what we heard from students who were in the program.</p>
<p>She focused on research and chose 2, the third one was our in state school where she has been doing summer research for the past 2 years, the 4th was Rice/Baylor as her reach because it’s close to TMC which we thought would also be good for research and Texas is warm. lol. We really didn’t know what we were doing but knew which schools she wanted. She got interviews with 2 (rejected from other 2), accepted into one and the other one we are still waiting for an answer but she has made up her mind and is very excited.</p>
<p>She also chose those 4 schools because they were schools she was considering for UG anyway.</p>

<p>It is extremely competitive nowadays to be admitted to one of these programs. Of the 8 programs I applied to that required an interview, I only received interview requests at two (and got into both).</p>
