How many questions are there? How much time do we have for the whole test? Also, is the level of the test similar to that of the SAT II ? Math I or II?

40 questions, 60 mins, level is closer to math II i think, i found normal SAT math to be way easier.

You think I can handle the test if I got a 720 on the SAT II Math II?

Of course. As far as I know, the highest you can place into is “118 or 125” as a result of this test. My sister got a 26 or 28/40 and she placed into the same math that I did, and I got a 36/40. They might have a higher level for perfect scores, but I highly doubt it. With that in mind, you have a TON of room to blow it and still not wind up in remedial math. If you’ve taken any math beyond algebra 2, the test consists of petty things that are there to bother you in higher maths, such as when you have something setup such as this: (a/b) / (c/d). They’re not out to screw you over, just to see if you have ANY exposure to the material they’re presenting. It’s so easy that, lets put it this way: if you don’t place into the ‘highest’ (118 or 125), you REALLY don’t belong there and would have hated your live had you anyways.

40 questions. I don’t remember my Math II SAT other than that I got a 690 on it and didn’t finish like 15 of the problems on that, but the placement test is mostly old stuff, from like Alg I/Geom/Alg II if I remember correctly. No calculus or really even precalc at all (I’m sure about the calc, not sure about the precalc). I got a 32/40 and received the highest placement.

shinywing, may I respectfully request that you not start any more threads fussing about the math placement test?

It is a PLACEMENT test. You are not meant to study for it. You are supposed to just TAKE it. You are unreasonably worried about this PLACEMENT test. *If you are this concerned about a placement test, you need to seriously consider if you are ready to leave home and attend a four-year university on the other side of the country. *At USC you will, on a weekly basis, have test after test that are far more important than the math PLACEMENT test. I am not sure you are emotionally ready for that.

aight allenmom or whatever your username is. that comment was unnecessary and ridiculous. I was concerned about it too because I didn’t want to take stupid precal again and I already took calculus. I completely understand his concerns. I went to boarding school on the east coast and I’m from midwest so don’t pull that I don’t think your ready to leave home crap. I’m sure he knows hes going to be tested quite frequently at USC, but the placement dictates what class you get into which is important and worth some thoughts and concerns. We don’t need a mother’s opinion on a test you have NO access to.

back to the point

I took it a couple weeks ago its basically precal and trig
some polynomial long division
solving some triangles - with precal not geometry
some elaborate arithmetic (multiplication/division of complex equations)
inequalities
system of equations

Oh, dearest mongoose8p,

I am ever so sorry to have been ridiculous and unnecessary! I am sure you are correct that starting four threads asking the same questions about the math placement test and spending more than a month studying for it and worrying and worrying about it is quite sensible.

How wonderfully worldly you are having been to boarding school on the East Coast! I am sure your experiences there will be of great assistance to dear shinywing, it is so very kind of you to step in and correct my grievous errors. Of course you have no need for a mother’s opinion on anything, especially a lame mother’s opinion, so rest assured you will not receive mine on any subject.

I am all apologies,

alamemom

Oh, my GOODNESS!

mongoose8p, it is just amazing the transformation you have made in terms of your helpfulness to shinywing! In this thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/925854-they-going-rescind-my-admission.html#post1064835744 I am afraid you were quite unkind to shinywing, and reading your response on that thread makes my offense seem not quite so ridiculous, wouldn’t you agree, dear mongoos8p?

Continued apologies,

alamemom

This thread is a goldmine.
