What level of math does the placement test cover? I'm going to be a biological sciences major so I have to take the test. I'm slightly worried because I haven't had math for a while. Should I study for it? How many questions are on it? Are they multiple choice?

Would also like to know this. Is it mostly Algebra II, trig, pre calc material? Sort of like the SAT test? Or any Calc AP material?

My daughter is taking this right after she takes the AP Calculus test while the material is fresh in her mind.

Is the math placement test online or completed at the orientation?

online, completed 72 hrs before orientation if I remember correctly.

Math and language tests are both online. I believe a student must take these tests before orientation.

Anyone know if they can take the language in Latin or are they all modern languages?

I've taken the math placement test just two days ago. It was not bad at all; there are 40 questions, all multiple choice. There is no calculus on it, only algebra, geometry, trigonometry, but a more specific list of what is on the test is on the USC website. It was easy for me, as i scored 40/40 and plan on majoring in computer science; however, I still don't think it should be a problem for anyone. :)

thank you so much kc55!

kc55: Thanks for the info!
Do you happen to have the link? Cannot find the access to the on line placement tests (no link on the pre-orientation homework list that I see)
If anyone can direct, that would be great.

try this:

USC Testing Bureau

Thanks bmom.
But that gives all the info on the pencil/paper tests at the bureau and not how to access the online one.
Their instructions for online test direct you to orientation site, and that one has no link to the online test. Am I just nuts and not seeing it?

The placement test is part of your Pre-Orientation Homework after you've signed up for Orientation.

sorry Sequoia, I didn't realize that it doesn't take you to the online test.

Hi Sequoia, there is a link in the pre-orientation homework. In fact, there are many steps in that web sequence, and one step is specifically for the testing, if I recall. Think you need to access it after logging on so we can't direct you with a link.
