<p>Columbia requires two recommendations. But is it possible that I have more than two? My counselor said that it's useless to get more than the required number, but I've heard of others who are asking for three or four.
How many recommendations are you guys getting? Is two enough or the minimum required?</p>
<p>I submitted 4, back in the day, but I was an unusual case. 2 were from teachers, 1 was from my principal, and 1 was from a boss i had at a full-time job during my senior year. long story.</p>
<p>i'd say don't do more than 3 unless you have a very unusual profile that requires some explaining by lots of people who know you well. and make sure they all present very distinct sides of you - no one wants to read additional, unrequested stuff that says the same thing.</p>
<p>2's enough. 3's also fine. If you're doing 3, make sure there's enough variety. That is, don't have 3 english teachers write for you, and consider a letter from someone who can say something more than "he's smart and got an A in my class" (maybe the coach of your sports team, or the sponsor of an EC you're heavily involved in).</p>
